TYT MD-9600 discontinued? [No]
TYT MD-9600 discontinued? [No]
https://www.radioddity.com/products/tyt ... ransceiver
On Radioddity's site the MD-9600 now says discontinued. Anyone know if the production of new units is coming to an end?
I've been thinking about getting one, looks like I may need to hurry up.

Looks like these companies are purging their product lines.N1KY wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 3:25 amhttps://www.radioddity.com/products/tyt ... ransceiver

TYT themselves still have them listed
https://www.tyt888.com/?mod=product_show&id=108
But that doesn't mean they have not been discontinued.
Luck I bought 2 brand new MD9600 last year, for a decent price.
Probably not too late to buy one, as loads of places still have them in stock.

Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
Most vendors have no idea what hardware revision they are selling
My radios have V4A written on the PCB, and they have different PLL and IF chips to the PCBs with V4 written on them
We call the V4A versions V5, as we think TYT changed the PCB label to V5 this year but the hardware appears to be the same as the V4A
But because TYT don't publish a chsnge log or anything else about what hardware is in these radios, there is no way to be sure if the V4A and V5 are identical
The BER problem was fixed ages ago, probably in the V3 hardware
BTW. As far as we kmow, There was never any V1 hardware sold.
Most or possibly V2 radios have V2.1 written on the PCB
The speaker click in the V2 radios was fixed in either the V3 or V4 radios, but reintroduced in the V4A and V5 radios
Some early V2 radios have slightly different hardware related to the backlight dimming, so we had to produce a version we call V1 to cover this even though the PCB labels on these radios seem to be V2.1
So you pay your money and take your choice

Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
Just saw a pair for MD9600 radios for sale on ebay. Seller is in USA (Illinois).
Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
There are TYT MD-9600s available right now on Amazon in the US. They are being sold by a vendor called KITOOPS. I have no affiliation with this seller or Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JJWKPCF
I can confirm they are V5 radios and work great with OpenMD9600.

The PCB version number is interesting.ve7mdt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 9:09 amI just received a brand new unit w/ a clone CPU from Aliexpress that I ordered in early Feb.
Seems there are a lot of units available from China and now the latest beta firmware supports the clone CPU so no problem.
My PCB shows M1-V4A and I use the V5 firmware successfully.
My MD-9600 is well over a year old and has V4A written on the PCB, but I thought someone reported seeing V5 on their PCB about 6 months ago
V4A and V5 seem to be identical hardware, and to save confusion this firmware version is called V5
V4 radios have a different IF chip which has software selectable bandwith, V4A / V5 has separate IF chips for 12.5kHz and 25kHz operation
