Larger memory
Re: Larger memory
Thanks for the quick reply Daniel, yes it takes forever to copy the flash backup to the pc but I saved and compared to my old one and yes 16 mb file compared to 1 mb so that all seems ok, but, trying to add a contact on the radio I got "list full" and on the CPS only 1024 contacts, not quite the thousands I was expecting !!
How do I tell the radio and CPS that I've changed the chip so I get more than the 1024 contacts ??
Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!!

Re: Larger memory
You are confusing Digital Contacts in the codeplug with the DMR ID database.
They are, and have always been (even in the official firmware) completely different sets of data
Digital Contacts are still limited to 1024, but these are for TG's and Private Calls, they are not to display callsigns or other details
The DMR ID database is used to display callsigns and names, and is mainly used on networks like DMR MARC which do not transmit the callsign and name etc as part of the Talker Alias data
So for Brandmiester and other networks you don't need the DMR ID database to see callsigns, but you won't see names on BM unless the operator has entered their name into the APRS data in the BM Selfcare portal

Re: Larger memory
Thanks Roger, as I said I was being a bit thick lol now I understand and the radio is behaving as it should now and not how I thought it should so just need to test it out !!
Out of curiosity I'm wondering if the digital contacts could be expanded by a chip change but I'll have to leave that for someone above my pay grade to sort out whether or not it's worth the hassle
Many thanks again to the team for making a very mediocre radio into something exciting

Re: Larger memory
The Digital Contacts are in the codeplug data which is fixed format
I am not aware of a Use-Case on Amateur radio, for requiring more than 1024 TGs to be stored in the Digital Contacts especially since any TG number can be directly entered
I know some radio's have specifications where they quote numbers like 10,000 Digital Contacts, but IMO this is just marketing BS, as there is no possible use for anywhere near that number of "Digital Contacts"
Re: Larger memory
Thanks again Roger, I guess my thoughts were more of an oh dear than an idea !!

Re: Larger memory
having upgraded to the 16mb chip it seems a lot of it's space is not used, at least on mine it's not, and i have ben wondering if that spare flash memory could be used for something else where memory space is in short supply ??
Re: Larger memory
Unfortunately the codeplug format is not extensible, so there is no way to use additional memory for channels etc
The Flash memory also can't be used as program / firmware space by the microprocessor , because it does not support external RAM or ROM .
Re: Larger memory
Hi everyone,
in my GD-77 I found a 1 MByte 25D80ASTIC flash memory from BoyaMicro . I tried to replace it with 25Q64fvsg and 25Q128fvsg from Winbond. The CPS refused to restore the flash from file and stoped with an error report. I had to replace the old part to get the GD-77 working properly again. CPS latest Version E2022.02.23.01 and firmware Feb 28 2022. Is that a known issue?

Re: Larger memory
What is the ID of the chip(s) ?, 25Q64fvsg should be 0x4017, 25Q128fvsg is 0x4018DF1OG wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 9:15 amHi everyone,

Re: Larger memory
Hi Daniel,
thank you for your immediate reply. I have used the same 25Q64fvsg in my first GD-77 and all work fine. Where I can get/see the hex-ID? At the moment I have re-installed the old 25D80ASTIG in my second GD-77.
