Possible bricked GD77...help needed.
Possible bricked GD77...help needed.
I had a new GD77 about a year ago. I upgraded it to Open GD77 with updates firmware and code plug....all worked fine........I have since recently purchased a secondhand older gd77. I tried to update the recently purchased GD77 with the programming I used on my Open GD77 that worked well. It was already ising Open GD77 so thought it would be OK to just update the programming to the same as my original one.....Since then, the display looks very basic and I cant find any channels and it just wont work anymore....I am very new to programming being a bit of a luddite. Got my licence in 1972. So I need very much help to get this GD77 going again. Having read up it seems I might have done damage as the firmware wont update or change at all now.....Any help would be very much appreciated....73
Re: Possible bricked GD77...help needed.
What firmware are you using on the radio with the basic functionality? It sounds like you are using the manufacturers official firmware.
Re: Possible bricked GD77...help needed.
Thankyou so much for your reply Roger ....I think it is the newest edition of software and firmware have loaded but as you say the hardware looks like very basic and no matter what I try to do by loading another version of firmware or codeplug the GD77 wont change firmware version.. Sorry but as I say I am very new to this sort of thing . Regards. Les

And yes it does have very basic functionality

Hi Les,
Can you post a picture of the radios screen when it is in this ‘basic’ mode.
Colin.

Hi Les,
That is not OpenGD77, it is the manufacturers original firmware. That’s why it looks wrong.
I was about to point you at the user guide for detailed instructions on how to update the firmware but then I noticed that it is out of date. I will have to try to update and submit it to reflect the new procedure.

Hi Colin..
I did think it looked like the gd77 not open gd77 firmware. As I said I cant get the firmware to update. I have tried to update it to Open GD77 by following the various instructions but it just will not update. The firmware seems to be stuck in that version and I cant get it to update to Open GD 77.. From what you are saying it sounds as though I need to update it a different way.
When I bought the rig about a week ago it was using Open GD77 and the code plug was full of stuff I didn't want, even though the rig was working fine. I did take a copy of the codeplug before I did anything else. I suppose I should have just deleted what I didnt want and carry on using the rig with the programming it came with, but I didnt . Now I have got it stick.. Oh well, live and learn I hope..
If you have some way around this I would be very much appreciative.
I beleive you live in Bournemouth ?? I live in Holton Heath.

Hi Les,
You may be confusing me with Ted G4ELM!
I have now updated my copy of the OpenGD77 User guide to reflect the new method of updating firmware. https://github.com/g4eml/OpenGD77_UserG ... r_Guide.md
I have submitted this to Roger for inclusion in the official version. https://github.com/LibreDMR/OpenGD77_Us ... r_Guide.md
You can use my version for now until Roger gets the time to update the official version.
Please give it a try and let us know how it goes.
