A ‘TG List’ is simply a list of multiple Contacts. It could equally well be called a Contact list.
As you say, the channel needs to know what contact to send the call to. This can either be a pre-defined single contact, in which case it is defined in the Contact field of the channel, or it can be user selected at the time of use, in which case the allowable contacts are defined in the TG List.
This is one of the major benefits of the OpenGD77 firmware over most other DMR radios. The ability for the user to simply change the contact (talkgroup) by using the left and right arrows means that only one channel needs to be defined for each repeater.
