I just tried turning off the radio and turning it back on after a few seconds. MMDVMHost (on OSX) woke up hotspot mode on the radio again after a few seconds. I will try doing this for longer periods to see if it still wakes up OK.
Seems MMDVMHost will continuously look for the modem if it gets disconnected. Here's a truncated log, from when I turned off the radio to after a couple of minutes, when I turned it back on again. Frequency and other settings were passed on to the radio when it came back on.

Chance that works on OS-X. Under Linux it doesn't work as MMDVM own the tty, so the kernel will instanciate another one (by increasing the tty number), which won't match the one defined in the config file.

Cheers.

Thanks for that clarification, Daniel. As far as I know, OSX assigns the tty number based on the device and the USB port it's plugged into. So it will keep on identifying the radio as the same tty number as long as it's plugged into the same port. Perhaps this is one advantage on the Mac, in terms of resilience.

Hello together!

I'm using a rasberry pi Zero and don't want to use the MMDVM_HS_Hat that is connected on the GPIO port and want to use the OPENGD77 DMR hotspot (USB) instead. If I changed it in my configuration then

1. the GD-77 doesn't go into the hotspot mode
2. the brandmeister server cut the connection.

Have I disconnect the MMDVM_HS_Hat or what can I do?

Thanks.

Did you enabled the Hotspot mode in the GD's Options menu ? (MMDVM mode). It's easy to notice it, the mode in the main screen (FM/DMR) is written in bold font when hotspot is turned on.

Hello Daniel!

I had done it. I selected it in the options menu, but the GD-77 doesn't go into the hotspot mode and the Brandmeister server disconnect the link.

I guess you've selected the OpenGD77 as Modem in the PiStar configuration page, right ?
BTW, what is the version of your PiStar (3.4.x or 4.1.x ?).

Hi Daniel,
I'm using version 3.4.17. and select the OPENGD77 as modem.

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm, If you're using the official version of the PiStar 3.4.x, I don't think it will work correctly.

Here, you have two choices, install the fork I've made, which supports 3.4 and 4.1 versions (https://github.com/f1rmb/Pi-Star_DV_Dash), or create a new SDCard with a brand new official PiStar 4.1.

Hi together,

I found a solution: Now I'm using now a raspberry pie 4B with 4GB Ram and four USB ports. Now the GD-77 is in hotspot mode. The Raspberry Pie
Zero has only micro USB ports, so I used an adapter. I believe the the adapter don't functioned correctly. Now with this Raspberry Pie I can use the GD-77 as modem.

Thanks for help Daniel.

Sincerely
DB2WH - Peter
