I guess we can repurpose the VFO/MR and A/B for left and right keys, just like the RD-5R.
In the meantime, I can build a specific version with MMDVM hotspot enabled.

Yes using keys like the RD-5 would be a great solution.
Another solution would be perhaps also to take again the idea of GD77S with the key SK1 to the ignition ...
I will send you an email right away to have a version with the mmdvm active natively.

No, the GD-77S has a specific UI, which is completely incompatible with the other platforms (SK1 & SK2 are heavily used).
