Hotspot does not appear to handle GPS data reception.

Post by DO3BOX » Wed Aug 05, 2020 5:20 pm

Does the same apply to the position data?
For example: I use an Anyone mobile radio with GPS. It sends the position data over hotspots or repeaters to the BrandMeister network (262999) where it is forwarded to APRS. Using the GD77 as hotspot the data does not arrive at the network.
Is this the same cause?

I think GPS is handled via the Talker Alias data, which is different from SMS.

From what you have written, it sounds like potentially Talker Alias reception is not working in Hotspot mode.
TA transmit definitely works however.

I've logged this a possible bug

https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... issues/711

However, I'm unable to test this, as I don't have any radios which have GPS.

Well, I do have a RT-3S with GPS but its not functional at the moment, as its in pieces on my workbench.

I'm almost certain that GPS data has nothing to do with the Talker Alias...
Both is inband data, indeed. (Referring to https://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_ts/10 ... 20301p.pdf 5.4.2 and 5.4.3)

Yeah, the hotspot already handles the GPS TA data from BM, but not the frames issued from the HT themselves. We need more documentation about this, plus, there is not real standard, some manufacturer implements their own format.

Cheers.

I could have sworn I asked this and it was simply that OpenGD77 does not yet support SMS?

for clarification: My initial question was in the SMS-thread and was used to make a new thread without the context being apparent.

Thanks for the answers.

Right, but I thought GPS data was sent over the DMR network in the form of an SMS, so until SMS is implemented there's no way for GPS data to move around.
