Hello guys,
Waiting on my RD-5R to arrive and I plan to flash it with OpenGD77 as soon as I get it out of the box. Of course, I'll keep my options open and backup everything so I can get back on stock firmware.
The question: Can i just flash OpenGD77 first, or should I load a codeplug to the radio, either blank or with my DMR ID and a few channels/TGs first?
Firmware on RD-5R
Re: Firmware on RD-5R
Hi,
Well, you'll disappointed with the codeplug flashed in your HT, so you'll have to build a fresh and light one to start with.
Cheers

Re: Firmware on RD-5R
Yeah, I got that from my reading that Baofeng will write a test codeplug that's useless for my situation, and it's a given I'll have to make one myself. But still the question remains... Can I flash the firmware right away, or should I empty the radio beforehand?
Re: Firmware on RD-5R
Yes, flash the firmware, make all the backups using the OpenGD77 CPS.
Never, I mean never make a factory reset using the original firmware, as you have high risks to half brick your transceiver (unable to flash any firmware, unless you connect a JLink and reflash the bootloader).

Re: Firmware on RD-5R
Good to know. Looks like the stock firmware is pretty cr*ppy. I think I will stay away from it. From what I can read, OpenGD77 seems to be the best option for this radio for ham use.
