Im using a comm mountain external speaker mic with my gd77. Im curious if anyone who uses an external speaker mic have recommendations for one that might be a little louder. My volume seems to have to be all the way to hear some dmr stations.

Thank you in advance

I currently use a RADIODDITY RS22 that works well but yes there is a slight drop in audio output compared to the GD77 speaker. DMR listen levels flucuate so much in general that I'm often adjusting the HT volume knob anyway so with the mic I just move it further away or closer as needed when in use. Most of the day I leave the mic plugged in with the HT clipped on a stand near my desk and find that the mic speaker output is very adequate.

The Internal speaker is driven by the bridge outputs of the amplifier. The external speaker socket is single ended with one side connected to ground. So an external speaker can only ever see half of the voltage (a quarter of the power) compared to the internal one.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense.

The other problem with the speaker connection that colin described is that there can be a click every time the audio amp is turned on and off.

I haven't gotten one yet but want a Retevis HK008 Shoulder Speaker Mic which has its own built-in audio amp and volume knob... I wonder if it'd make a radio louder, certainly make adjusting the volume a little easier on my other DMR radio anyway.

I've personally never had an issue with any DMR stations being too quiet on the GD77. GREATLY varying in volume, yes.. ugh.

I have the Radioddity RS22 and I have issues with RF ingress causing pulsating interference when transmitting on DMR. It's bad enough that I will not use the RS22 on DMR.
