Weird thing happen. if I set display option to display contact to 2 lines. every time the radio heard a station it will change the Color Code and stop the audio output, because the transmitting station is not on that Color code it had changed to.
Please also refer to viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2509&start=10#p21166. I just read your post and it reminded me that I forgot to follow up on my 2022 post ;-) At that time I started reducing max. number of chars to avoid the weird CC changes and I think it didn't happen since.

Assume you just loaded max. lengths of IDs based on your recent memory modifications and the "old CC bug" is still there somehow (BTW: thanks for the mod details and photos - I'm about to upgrade one of my RD5Rs as well...).

OK

Sounds like a bug in the firmware with possibly the settings or some other data being overwritten

I have a GD77 which has 8Mb Flash and i never noticed this problem, but it may only happen in 16Mb radios.

Possibly Daniel upgraded his GD77 to 16Mb ?

Yes I did, but didn't noticed any problem.
I will check later (if I can)

After I reduce the number of characters (now I’m at 28 characters because the RD-5R can’t display longer than that anyway), the problem has gone.

So the old workaround still seems to do the trick 8-)

If I remember correctly it ONLY happend on my two RD-5R (both unmodified so far). Also have i.e. GD-77 (unmodified), DM-1701, DM-1801, RT-3S, MD-9600 (...) but never saw the CC changes on any of those... It clearly depends on actual data record lengths and 1-/2-/auto-line setting. I remember listinging to various "Test-QSOs" in 2022 where the OMs with short data records didn't cause any issues and the ones with longer records made the CC jump to an undefined value and therefore muted the device...

OK, now the ugly thing. Below is my lousy work and the damaged I've created. Lesson learned, component HAS TO SIT ON THE BOARD.

This is how I soldered it. Notice the gap between the chip and the board.

In the re-assemble process, the speaker on the front case must have pressed on the top part of the chip. Cause the bottom part of the chip to lift up and peeled away the pads.

And this is the ugly, heartbroken, damaged board.
