Actually it is a Winbond device. It's a 25Q128FVSG chip.
Electically its not reporting its a winbond chip.

see the official winbond data sheet, linked from Digikey ( https://www.winbond.com/resource-files/ ... %20kms.pdf )

page 24 , section 8.1.1

the original chip code of is a Winbond code, because it starts with 40

4018 is the code that all normal GD77 radios chips report.

My chip clip identifies it as a W25Q128JV-xM device.

I guess we could try adding your code as a valid chip, but it still may not work.

Both the firmware and cps would need to be changed

But if that chip does not respond to the Winbond command codes, then it will not be supportable

Well, the CPS is actually able to restore the backup okay, but some of the other functions don't work.

the firmware checks to see if the chip is known device, and won't work if its not on a supported list.

normally this is not an issue, because people have never fitted a non-Winbond chip into their radio.

I found the datasheet for a W25Q128JV-DTR that shows an ID of 7018h.

Looks like its from a different series of Winbond chips.
