Now I leave the GD running with genuine flash memory in order to spare the soldering pads. Perhaps it will get an explanation in the future. Thanks very much for your support!

Hmmmm,

Can you try to restore the flash backup using that CPS:
downloads/OLD_BETAS_AND_RC/PublicBeta_2 ... .22.01.exe

Don't do anything else with it.

Cheers.

Hi Daniel,
I can try that. But I have to re-solder the old flash and solder in the new flash for this try. I am afraid of destroying the pads at least... Then I would have a "bricked" GD. I do not understand, why the old flash can be programmed with opengd77 firmware/CPS without problems although the chip-IDs do not fit to EF 40 18 or EF 40 17.

And I have fitted a GD with the same W25Q64 before (and you are right, CPS was from 2021, where the 8/16 MB option was already implemented) and it worked. It seems that something has been changed meanwhile.

Hi Ingo,

Okay, I will investigate that.

Now I have read the flash from my old GD and tried to restore it with the new CPS. No problems at all. Someone roast me a stork...

Hi Daniel,
let me tell you my story. For the first step I flashed the GD with firmware from Nov. 2021 with the Nov. CPS. After that I backed up flash and calibration. Then I removed the old 1 MB flash and soldered the 25Q64fvsig into... phew! no pad destroyed. With the old CPS it was no problem to restore the flash and calibration file back into the GD. Then I flashed the new firmware from Feb. 2022 with the latest CPS. All well done also! Afterwards I could load the complete callsign data base into the GD. Based on this experience I think that there must be a difference in firmwares and/or the CPSs. May be that this can help you.

Dear Daniel,
I have fitted another GD with a 25Q128fvsg according the methode I described before. No problem at all :-). It seems to be a difference between the FWs and/or the CPSs.

Hi all,

I have opened my RD-5R and found an 8Mbit flash memory 25Q80DV. Did anyone try to replace this flash with a 25Q64xx or 25Q128xx in order to increase the memory for DMR IDs?

Best regards
