Auctus AT1846S Question

Post by lxmyers » Tue Oct 12, 2021 5:11 am

Hello,
I am hoping to get a little more information on the Auctus AT1846S specifically, its use in low cost DMR radios such as the GD77. The most common low cost DMR radios seem to share very similar design utilising an MCU such as a STM32 or NXP, a blackbox Baseband IC from "HongRui?" and the AT1846S.

My main question is, what role does the AT1846S play in the digital signal path?

Is the I/Q output from the HR_C6000 piped into it for transmission?

Mic --> HR_C6000 -- > AT1846S --> Preamp --> Power Amp -->>> Airwaves?

Or is the AT1846S only used to receive the digital signals and transmission is done differently?

I understand this may not be a relevant topic of discussion and if so, please let me know and I'll delete the thread. Either way, I look forward to hear you all.

Cheers,
Alex

DMR Tx, the 4FSK audio path is not via the AT1846S.

The C6000 directly modulates the local oscillator to generate the FM 4FSK signal.

The AT1846S is effecively only used to generate a carrier signal, with no modulation.

There is no signal path from the MCU to the mic input of the AT1846S or a direct path from the speaker output of the AT1846S to the MCU.
Hence these radios can't be used for any other digital modes than DMR, becasue all digital audio paths are via the C6000

BTW.

Not all these low cost radios use the AT1846S, some e.g. the MD380 use more conventional hardware.

Thank you for the quick reply! I think that answers all my questions.

That's a shame, I was hoping there might be a possibility for the transmission of data packets (telemetry, etc.) of some description.

Basically if it's not supported by the C6000, it can't happen without serious modification?

That's correct, and documentation about the C6000 is extremely limited, and it does not show a way to modulate or demodulate other modes
