Is a camera installed in the GD77

Post by K9JPT » Sun Aug 08, 2021 10:15 pm

I peeled the Radioddity label off my HT and found what appears to be a secret camera behind it.

Does anyone have more info on this and able to determine to what extend surveillance may have bee conducted?

LOL,

As you can see in the latest picture, there is absolutely nothing behind:

Nothing behind? Mine certainly does have something behind. Perhaps the housing to build my GD77 was from some sort of experimental device being developed and surplus used to build my unit?

Regardless, this is a real photo and no tricks or games are being played from my side.

I think you should take a deep breath ;-)

As I wrote you in a PM, it's probably the molding injection trace.
If you really want to check by yourself, remove the antenna and power nuts, and the two screws on the bottom of the enclosure, behind the battery (take care of the flatflex).

Also, using the OpenGD77 you're on the safe side, we don't even have any code for RX/TX SMS ;-)

Cheers.

I removed the thin plastic layer and it appears to be what you said. I was hesitant to remove this believing it may lead to moisture contamination but it's still totally sealed.

Hope this gave everyone a good chuckle.

Regarding SMS- If the day ever comes then probably the Open GD77 community will be the only users where this can be done reliably.

As Alex wrote, the SMS thing is a bit tricky (no real standard, brand incompatibility, etc). But who knows.

Cheers.
