TYT MD2017 / Retevis RT-82 Public Alpha 2.0 version

Post by VK3KYY » Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:23 am

An Alpha 2.0 version is now available to download

downloads/MD2017/Firmware/faf54d394a2ac ... 0aad53cf4d

EDIT.

Use this updated version V2.2

downloads/MD2017/Firmware/d63265696e4f4 ... 8c9f3d684d

This version has trackball support. Thanks to Daniel F1RMB.
Trackball functionality is off by default, becuase many trackballs in these radios are faulty and can generate spurious inputs.
To enable the Trackball, see Options -> General Options -> Trackball.

RSSI on VHF have been rescaled, using data supplied by OH2FHJ
Satellite mode DTMF bug (applicable to all OpenGD77 versions) has been fixed. Thanks to Daniel F1RMB

Increased audio levels on DMR and FM
Change to FM audio filter paramaters to match official firmware.
Bug fix to external mic input. No change to operation.

Experimental dual RSSI display
MD2017_dual_RSSI.png
MD2017_dual_RSSI.png (3.24 KiB) Viewed 1605 times
RSSI at the top of the screen is the active VFO freq
RSSI at the bottom of the screen is the inactive VFO freq

When channel mode is selected the RSSI at the top will be the current channel and the RSSI at the bottom will continue to be the inactive VFO

This is a work in progress for debug purposes to help test additional features that may be added to the firmware for this radio

Note.

This version does not fix the keypad problem experienced by some people

I only know 2 people who have the version of the radio which has the keypad problem, and neither of them have used the Debug Mode features in the Alpha version, which would give me more information about why the keypad appears not to work in these radios.

Its possible the problem is not the keypad and that the firmware is actually crashing / hanging on these radios.
But until someone with one of these radios has time to use Debug Mode, its impossible to make any progress with this problem

Just installed this, so far these issues:
- monochorme only (why no color, no icons ?)
- trackball needs sensitivity setting (moves a bit fast)
- blue button does nothing (the big side button above PTT) when pressed shortly
- central trackball click does nothing inside menus (idle screen shows channel settings ?)
- no dual monitoring (factory firmware allowed 2 channels to be monitored)

FM works ok, no DMR test yet. Everything else seems to be working, will report if problems found.

Should I do any particular tests ?

Edit: found out that keeping the big blue button pressed you get someting like "monitor" mode in factory firmware (open squelch)

Read: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3717

Read the User Guide for all OpenGD77 radios

Read what an Alpha release normally compirses of. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_ ... life_cycle

This is NOT a final release

It will never have icons becuase OpenGD77 does not use icons

Here is a bug:

Under "Firmware info" the CPU is listed as "STM" should it not be K22 ?

Wrong

These radios use the STM32 MCU

As I documented in my original post

Blue button is SK2
Trackball press inwards is SK1 (even if trackball movement is disabled)
P1=Left
P2=Right
Up and Down buttons on side of the radio are Up/Down
Orange button is ..... Orange button

All OpenGD77 functionality works with these remapped buttons

Tried the new 20240215 release on the RT82 but the CTCSS and DCS modulation seems too high so radio can't open any repeaters/radios with subtone.

Reverted back to 20240126 and subtones work again

The RSSI test version 20240209 073001 have same problem with subtone levels.

Ok

I changed some TRx chip parameters to match the official firmware. I didn't test Ctcss tx etc, because the change was minimal

I will need to confirm if it was this change that adjusted the ctcss
