Re: CPS Dosen"t See the DM1701.bin "EASY INSTALL EXPLAINED!"

Post by W2GAS » Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:17 am

That was a frustrated rant, sorry about that, LoL. I was finally able to find the correct way to install the bin file.
That is why I never finished this thread. But I will explain: "The Correct, Easy Way" to Install OpenGD77 on to a DM-1701! I had to watch 14 different videos to get all the information correct, when all that is needed, is the one correct way to explain how to install the OpenGD77 firmware in the first place~! Nobody said it all! I had to look at all those videos to find out the links, and it was all mostly clickbait. Most just gave old news and links that were broken.

So I decided to make my own easy to install way of explaining it. Not everyone here is a rocket scientist, so I made it really simple to do just follow a few steps, no 50-min video talking about everything but instilling the program to your rig! So Here are the quick, easy steps that took me less than 3 min to load!

The First Step is to get the Donor File HERE: https://www.passion-radio.com/index.php ... 0.1.1-1706

The Second Step is to get the Latest OpenGD77 CPS Software AT: viewforum.php?f=19

The Third Step is to get the OpenGD77.bin file AT: downloads/MDUV380_DM1701/Firmware/c3e8a ... de46788fd/

These are the only files that are needed to install OpenGD77

After you have all the files. Put your DM-1701 into DFU mode by, holding down the PTT and the Top side button and turn the DM-1701 on.

You want to install the OpenGD77 CPS First

Then, after you install the CPS, open it and go to extras.

In Extras go to Firmware Loader, select DM-1701/RT-84

then Select The Donor File As of this writing it is MD9600-CSV(2571V5)-V26.45.bin

Next, Select the Open firmware file and Upload As of this writing it is OpenDM1701.zip

After it's finished, The radio is now programmed with the OpenGD77 easy to use codeplug.

Sometimes there is gibberish in the Contacts, TG Lists, Zones, Channels, Just clear them all out and start a new Codeplug or if you have a friend that can lend you their codeplug that will save a lot of time!

This method is the only method that works 100% Took me about 8 days to fig all this stuff out !

This will have you up and running ASAP!

One problem that may appear is the DFU driver in windows.
Maybe you have it already if you have used the original CPS or some other software that uses STM DFU drivers.

And if you use Windows 11 the older drivers does not work so good.
Also windows may install another STM driver that is incompatible.

So sometimes it's good to download downloads/drivers/Dfuse_3.0.6_drivers.zip

As described in the excellent YT video here (1'st post):
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2380

Before installing OpenGD77.
But after having installed the Windows STM DFU driver - See viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3434&start=10#p31058

I would install the "Original/Factory firmware CPS", from here - Scroll all the way down to bottom , and click on the DM-1701 icon
https://www.radioddity.com/pages/baofeng-download
radioditty-dm-1701-dl.png
radioditty-dm-1701-dl.png (144.12 KiB) Viewed 166 times
Then i would install the radioditty CPS , and make a backup of the FactoryCP.
And then press CTRL+T , and make a backup of the DM-1701 Calibration data.

Now you can install OpenGD77 firmware.
Install the OpenGD77 CPS, and follow the video mentioned above.

Remember right after having upgraded to the OpenGD77 bin firmware, before playing with codeplugs etc.
To make a backup of your Flash , and Secure Registers, and Calibration data (seperate menu entry in the OpenGD77 CPS).
That way you can make a "fallback to factory firmware" if ever needed.

I'd also make a backup of the MCU ROM.

Do you mean OpenGD77 Calibration data - Or the "Ctrl+T" in Orig FW CPS ??
On my MD-UV380, I made the "Ctrl-T" in orig fw. CPS.
And I'm quite sure i made a backup of Cal data in OpenGD77

But not on the 1701 i made the "Orig CTRL+T" .. But not the OpenGD77 ... I didn't see it (was i blind) here ??
If i was blind , can i still get/save it after having uploaded a CP to the 1701 ??

You don't care about the <ctrl>-t on STM32 platform, as you can't edit the calibration data in the CPS (but directly on the radio instead).
The firmware don't change factory calibration data, but use a copy of it, located elsewhere in the flash, all platforms included.

In the end, both windows ("Calibration" and "OpenGD77 support") get the same data from the radio when backing up.
The important thing is to have all the data, even twice, as calibration is also part of the Flash, but ~one week ago we had the case where
someone make a flash backup that was in fact full of garbage (hence no calibration values), and he flashed back that corrupted data to the radio, triggering a no-go boot error message, without the possibility to restore anything useful.

So, the more the better ;-), even if not used, we never know what could happen.

Cheers.
