Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
I installed the 23 12 02 FW on my RT3S and the display and audio wouldn't work after that. I could get it into firmware update mode so I backed it down to the 2023 11 19 version. Same issue
I backed it down to the 2023 09 15 version FW and the display and audio came back.
Then I updated to 2023 12 02 version FW and it worked fine.
Not sure what the issue was. I was about to disassemble the radio and decided to try going back a couple versions on the FW. That seemed to work on servers when updates got messed up.
I used the same 2023 12 02 MD380 version to update a MD 390UV and it was fine.
Just sharing this incase someone else ends up with a dead RT3S or MD380.
Thanks for the firmware updates!

When you say the display and audio didn't work, I think you mean the radio was completely unreponsive.
The volume control in the UV380/390 (and DM1701) is not a direct analog control, so if the firmware is not running than the volume control won't work.
Possibly on both occasions when the firmware didn't work, there could have been a glitch during the upload.
I looked to see if the DFU protocol used by these radios, had any form of error checking, but it states that the protocol does not have any checking
https://www.st.com/resource/en/applicat ... ronics.pdf
i.e The bootloader in the radio will rely on the USB stack to check for errors, however the bootloader is proprietary and also I don't know how robust USB communication is to corruption. The communication between host and device is secured by the embedded USB protection
mechanisms (such as CRC checking, acknowledgments). No further protection is
performed for transferred data or for bootloader specific commands/data
Anyway, my best guess is that there was some corruption of the firmware data during both occasions when the firmware didn't work
Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
Despues de actualizar el CPS a R2023.11.26.02 observo que en el menú de utilidades > firmware loader no aparece la opción MDUV380_DM1701?
Gracias por su atención y su dedicación al proyecto

Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
Roger,
Except for being able to put the RT3S in firmware update mode it was non responsive.
Thanks for the explanation. So reverting fw version wasn't the fix. Just reinstalling fw until the fw uploaded successfully.

Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
Same issue happens when I try to use sk2 + other number keys and press it very fast.
Powered it off and turn it on again, the md380 no display and sound。 I rolled back the firmware to 2023.05.15 as AE7GQ mentioned and radio came back.
Thanks for the firmware, hopefully the firmware will be better in the future.
Cheers.

Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
Please explain what you mean
i.e
Do you mean hold SK1 and repeatedly press a number key over and over again very quickly ?
If so, why are you doing this.
We can possibly fix a hang casue by does this, but there are likely to be multiple ways you can get the firmware to go wrong if you do things like deliberately hammer buttons over and over again, but thats not the normal useage of the firmware.
I'd not be surprised if I could crash Android or iOS by doing some strange repeated pressing of things.
Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
Yes you are right, this is really not a normal case of operation.
The reason for this is that I had been using a very old version (compiled by NA7Q) on the MD760, in which SK2+number keys mapped 9 shortcut menus, so when I got the MD380 yesterday and flashed the new firmware, I tried it out in the same way I was used to.
Thank you for your firmware, that is amazing work!
Cheers,
Adam/BH1NYR

Re: New Beta 2023 12 02
You need to reset all the QuickMenu shortcuts.
And also, reset the settings by hand (SK2 + Power ON), regarding your no display after update. You might pull the battery after flashing the firmware, checking the power switch is set to OFF before inserting the battery back.
