[Incorect information] TYT MD-UV390 Installation Hint

Post by OE6BZD » Fri Dec 01, 2023 10:12 am

Hi,

I just installed OpenGD77 (R 2023-11-19) on a TYT MD-UV390 with GPS, but I had to do something that was not explicitly mentioned in the user guide:

Power on the radio while holding down both buttons on the left side WITHOUT USB CONNECTED!
Then the screen will stay black and the LED starts blinking red and green alternatively.
Only then connect the USB cable and start the firmware upload from the OpenGD77 CPS.

If I power on the radio with USB connected and without buttons pressed, the "STM device in DFU mode" would show up in the device manager but the upload of the firmware would run too fast, it would complete without error but after a reboot of the radio the old firmware was still installed.
If both buttons are pressed and USB is connected while powering on the radio, the screen will show "TEST" but the result of the upload is the same.

Hope that helps someone.

Not sure why you had problems, but no one else ever needed to disconnect the USB

I can concur, there is no need to unplug/replug (as you have to turn the radio OFF before booting in bootloader mode).

Did you press Top button+PTT button or was it some other key combination ?

Was this with original TYT firmware loaded ?

Is it still the same even with OpenGD77 loaded ?

Oh. I only now realized that there are 3 buttons on the left side ;)
Maybe it was a coincidence that I pressed PTT+upper button when USB was disconnected.
Sorry for the confusion.

Top Button + PTT when powering on radio should start DFU mode (led flashing green-red) regardless if the USB cable is connected or
not.
