TYT MD UV390 GPS and OPENGD77

Post by CD3FKA » Tue May 30, 2023 4:13 am

Hey guys, I'm Ricky from Chile, new to this forum. First of all I apologise in advance if this topic has been reviewed before, but I did a little research and had no results.

Someone on reddit told me that was possible to install OpenGD77 on this radio, but I couldn't find any clear or specific information related to this model, I mean without mentioning the UV380.
I've read some people claiming that they were able to install it on this radio, but they don't go any further with the information apart from saying they did it.
Personally, I can't. No matter what I do, I just can't. The CPS doesn't show me the correct screens if I do what the instructions tell me to do and I'm going to show you what I mean.

Click for pictures.

MD380 Selected - Firmware Loader FM Only

MD380 Not selected - Firmware Loader +DMR

I tried selecting the wrong type of radio on purpose so I could get the "correct" dialogue, but when selecting the files it just says that can't connect to the "GD77".

I'm using the latest CPS, DFU Drivers, Radio properly in DFU Mode, Working USB Cable, Running firmware S018-016 (I don't know if this is relevant).

Please, share your ideas and experiences regarding this model of TYT DMR, if this is possible I will keep trying until I achieve it, but if this escapes my capabilities or it's a hardware limitation, I don't wanna waste my time or risking to brick it.

Thank you!

Hi,

The MD-UV390 is a MD-UV380 fitted in an IP67 enclosure. So, follow the MD-UV380 installation procedure, that's it.
Don't mix MD-UV3xx and MD-3xx, they are different beats.

Cheers.

Well the thing is, I follow the steps and face the problems I described (see the pictures)

Ive been told recently that in order to get the CPS to talk to the radio, I have to flash a "donor file" and I lost myself at that. I don know what that is.

I think you need to stop clicking everywhere, in the hope that would work at some point :D , and read the installation instruction post about MD-UV380 (and friends):

Note that the instruction still have the old latest link for fw: downloads/MDUV380/Firmware/Latest

The new combined latest link is: downloads/MDUV380_DM1701/Firmware/Latest/

Maybe it's possible to symlink the old path to the new one on the server ?

Update: I succesfully installed it on the radio.

I had to install the "donor" firmware first and do it within the proper menu, the images in the tutorial are just for reference.

These are the steps if someone is having troubles and find this post:

1) Radio in DFU mode and connected
2) Select UV380 in the type of radio
2) Extras, Firmware Loader and loaded the donor firmware and then the openGD for UV380
3) done.

Now I'm trying to import my old codeplug. I converted it to a CSV but when I try to import it, the OPENGD CPS gives an error.

Any clues?

What 'old codeplug' did you use? Start OpenGD77CPS.exe, make 'File' and 'New' to create a empty file and export it to CSV.
Check those CSV files. Your import must have the same structure.

My original codeplug, the one I created from scratch with the TYT CPS. I used an app that I think converts it to CSV but didn't work.
I had lots of channels and zones so starting all over again makes me kind of mad lol.

UPDATE: Now I know what you mean with structure. The app I mentioned is creating the CSV with all the information in one cell so for the CPS seems like a corrupt file. I'll have a look after work. Thanks

As I told you, make an 'empty' CSV out of a new CPS created with OpenGD77CPS.exe
Open that file with notepad.exe and check the delimiters. Must be ';' (semicolon)
The delimiters are the ones, that will separate the data fields, one by one.
If you see all in one cell, could be your other export was created with a ',' (coma)

If you want to import CSV into OpenGD77CPS.exe, all your data in column must be exactly
as the ones you created before via OpenGD77CPS.exe. I don't think that the CSV format of
the original TYT is in any way equal to the OpenGD77 format. Looks like you could forget
the 'old codeplug' and have to start from scratch.
