DTMF dial Tx CTCSS problem

Post by G7JIQ » Tue Feb 21, 2023 6:50 am

Yes I have the fake cpu.

This problem is being monitored on another radio.

If I use the dialer with the same key presses as the Baofeng RG-5R and the Radioddity GD-77.
Both send the dfmf strings ok, and the UV-380 just sends one long tone.

This also happens if you press the # key and send a string of numbers.

**An update to this problem,**
I have discovered it is the key beep that is being transmitted over the dtmf tones.
If you turn the key beep off you can hear the dtmf string being sent.

I may have found the answer,
It turns out the audio from the mic is not being muted then the DTMF is being sent,
Both the Baofeng RG-5R and Radioddity GD-77 mute the mic audio when the DTMF is being sent.

Hope this helps

G7JIQ,

I have just tested my MDUV380s both with the genuine and with the clone CPU and the mic audio is definitely muted when sending DTMF tones. The tones get sent correctly when listening on another radio.

I am unable to reproduce what you are seeing so there must be something strange with your radio or codeplug.

Have you checked the DTMF settings using the CPS? This can't be done on the radio.

The default settings should be

First Digit Delay 600ms
First Digit Duration 100ms
*# duration 100ms
DTMF Tail 100ms
DTMF Rate 3

Hi Colin

Yes thats what I have set,

I can send dtmf manualy, but not with the dialer,

Using the dialer my hotspot drops out trying to decode the tones after the second dtmf tone.
If I monitor on another radio I hear the first two tones fine, the rest have a thud thud sound and if the rx radio has rx ctcss turned on it go's silent.

I am using the same code plug on 4 other radios and the dialer works 100%.

I'm not sure the radio is capable of transmitting CTCSS at the same time as DTMF

I recall someone else reporting this, and there is a note in the code from Colin G4EML on 29th September 2022, saying

" CTCSS still muted during DTMF."

So I have a feeling this is currently not supported

As Roger says, at the moment we cannot send CTCSS and DTMF at the same time on the STM32 based radios. This is a limitation of the HRC6000 Chip which we are using to generate both systems, it can only do one at at time. When DTMF is sent the CTCSS is paused for the duration of the digits.

We maybe able to improve this in a future release but it involves a significant change to the current code.

Just a quick follow-up

This problem will also occur on the MD-9600/RT-90 and I don't think the hardware in that radio supports Tx CTCSS at the same time as DTMF

Edit. The hardware does theoretically support it, but the firmware may not ever be able to.

I think I have a potential fix for this.

G7JIQ, I will email you a test version

HI VK3KYY

Unfortunatly I havn't received the file,
I have changed my email address on the forum to my gmail, as yahoo seems a little hit and miss.

Would it be possible for you to please resend it.

Thanks..
