ALPHA 2022 11 25

Post by VK3KYY » Fri Nov 25, 2022 9:07 pm

New Alpha version with changes to the DMR APRS transmission

In the last version DMR APRS transmission required the Talker Alais text to also be sent.

In this version Talker Alias transmission control has been removed from the Radio Options, and is now 'Per channel', in that you need to enable Talker Alias or DMR APRS transmission on the channel and Timeslot

Options for TA transmission are

Off, APRS, Text, Both (APRS & Text)

CPS has been updated to support this change to the channel details.

Voice prompts have also been updated to support this version

Translation files will be posted soon.

Thanks. I've been waiting for in-call GPS for a long time.

Is there a possibility to leave TA/APRS settings in Options menu (or elsewhere) as a default setting when per-channel TA/APRS is not defined?
I.e. I'd like to explicitly disable TA for one channel/timeslot and enable by default for other channels - not to explicitly enable TA for each channel except one.

I think negative logic would be confusing to most operators

That's why I'm asking for a default setting somewhere in the menus, which can be overrided by per-channel setting. Something like DMR ID works now.

The position is sent as in-band data as part of a voice transmission addressed to the currently selected talkgroup. As such it would probably not be popular if the radio was to transmit at regular intervals on a busy talkgroup.

I'm having trouble 😬 testing this facility with the RT3S. On the Bradmeister Network I indicated the Motorola radio, I activated the APRS 60 and GPS, I used the TG GPS: 724999
I activated the TA and SLOT on the Channel I turned on the GPS on the radio and it did not work on the map. Maybe a step-by-step description will help correct where I'm going wrong.

You should enable "in-call GPS" in your BM selfcare and set TA TX to "APRS" or "Both" for desired channels/timeslots in your radio menu.
And then (that's important!) you should press PTT on your radio and make a regular voice call.

OpenGD77 firmware is only capable of transmitting your position along with the voice. It sends LAT/LON every time you're pressing PTT for at least a few seconds. There is no automated position report at the moment - and I doubt it will be in the foreseeable future.

I am very grateful for your explanation which eliminated my doubts. I will perform the test. Thanks again.
