Hi,

Thanks to CU7AAZ and UB3AYH, I did modified my RT3S.
Before the fix took sooooo long, with poor reception. Now it get a fix in a breeze, and report 8 to 11 sats most of the time.

Cheers.

Hi, Daniel / F1RMB

Excellent job.
I'm very happy to have contributed something that is helping people.
I liked the detail, cut you made on the antenna pcb.
I'm working on another crazy project, heheheeh
Circuit information is missing... not easy to find RT3s schematic diagram
Basically, it consists of placing the module shown in the image in an RT3s without a GPS module.

hi,
One more project. gps improvement
Unfortunately something is missing....
The Radio is not recognizing the module.
I don't know if something can be done in the firmware. ?
PCB connections, vcc+gnd+tx+rx+PPS (module)
pin1 + pin 5 + pin 9 from module chip to pcb.
If anyone has an idea, it's welcome

73s!

Note - These tests are being done on a nonGPS RT3s

Connect the output pin of the module to a USB to Serial converter and look at the data.
First check the Tx and Rx pins are correct and not swapped

The look at the data rate and also the data format.

The data has to be in standard NMEA format and not binary data

If you can receive data into your PC and have checked the baud rate, then post the data here so we can look to see if it seems compatible

I think I have a way to connect the module to the PC, and I'll do what you suggest.
not today anymore, my battery is low
The module pin (RX) was connected to the TX on the PCB.
The module pin (TX) was connected to the RX of the PCB.
Thanks Friend Roger

Check the TX and Rx connections. It looks like you may have them swapped.

That's good news.

To simplify the modification you could also remove the PPS and the RX connections. They are not used by the firmware. All you need is supply, ground and Tx data, just three wires.

Colin.
