ALPHA version - Known problems

Post by VK3KYY » Tue Sep 20, 2022 1:43 am

ALPHA version - Known problems

* Power calibration appears to be incorrect.
* Up / Down buttons function in the opposite direction to expected, for power and squelch
* VFO Sweep Scan: Not all controls are currently available
* FM mic gain may be too high. Edit. This does not seem to be a problem for everyone. Some people report no problem.
* DMR RX dropouts (hopefully fixed in latest Alpha 2022 10 03)
* User Guide needs to include a UV380 / RT-3S specific section.
* Radio may not turn off when battery reached 0%
* Reverse repeater function on Channel screen does not display the Channel name, but function does swap Tx and Rx frequencies.
* Battery life is not as good as on the GD77, but should now be better than the official firmware (using Alpha 2022 10 03 or newer)
* Auto power not working
* When changing from DMR <-- > FM there is a short busrt of unsqueched FM audio
* VFO data may be erased when the radio is turned off.

Scanning in VFO mode either does not work, or it is not known how to turn it on.

True.
I've updated the list to include this

On my RT3S OpenMDUV380 Firmware Sep 20.

cosmetics: up-arrow will reduce power setting, down arrow will increase power
Similar 'reverse' assignment in display brightness (and maybe on other functions)

After an attempt to transmit DTMF to FM, voice decoding in DMR disappears until the radio station is restarted. In addition, I am not sure that DTMF is transmitted correctly. I suspect that DTMF is not transmitted at all.

This is by design, for people who previosly used the GD-77 which uses the Left button to reduce power etc, however I realise this is confusing for new users who don't have a GD77 etc so perhaps those keys should be reversed

I don't understand the comment on brightness, becuase this is controlled via the rotary control on this radio

I am an all time user/owner of a GD77 ;-) Think up should be 'up' and down should be 'down', as said, not a big deal.

'Options' 'Display Options' all of them, including 'Brightness' can be changed by SK1 + up/down arrow. And they behave reverse.

Installed the previous firmware version. I can say that there are several times fewer cases of reception interruptions in the new firmware version. There is also information from my friend about the periodic loss of power on the transmission at an installed power of less than 500mW. I have not come across this error, I use a power of 500mW or more.
Aks your friend to confirm the power level at 1w, and each step below.

Power levels below 1W on any supported radio is never accurate, becuase the factory power calibration normally has 2 data points: Low power (normally 1W) and High power (5W on these radios), and often the radio power output has not been calibrated correctly at the factory.

I just tested my RT-3S and at 145Mhz, the 1W setting is 1.3W 5W is 6.4W!
430 , 1W setting is 1.17W, 5W setting is 5.1W

So I think my radio was not correctly calibrated at the factory

The PA RF output vs drive voltage is very non linear below 1W, so as the is no data point below 1W, on all OpenGD77 radios, the power levels below 1W are not accurate, especially if the power calibration at the factory is not correct

Hi !
Thanks for the fantastic work !!! My RT3s is out of the cupboard now :lol: ! But i have an issue: sometimes i have no tx mic signal in FM and DMR, i have to restart the radio to recover mic signal again ! I don't know if this issue was submitted yet. Thanks again !!

Hello.
Discharged the battery to 0% (6.4V). It took about 24 hours.
The battery indicator was blinking, but the station did not switch to the "low battery level" indication. When pressing PTT, the battery was disconnected by the built-in controller. Does it work wrong somehow?
