Just to confirm. The latest firmware is still working correctly on my MDUV390.

One thing that an cause the symptoms you describe is if you forget to select MDUV380 as the radio type before downloading the firmware. If it is inadvertantly left set to MD9600 it will appear to load but will not work.

When you say "Another report that OpenGD77 does NOT work on MD-UV390" . Do you mean this is your own personal experience, or something that someone posted elsewhere on the web etc etc.
Do you know the callsign of the person who had the problem, did you suggest they post here so that we have first hand information?

Just because the radio stays in the bootloader, it does not mean the radio is 'bricked'. It simply means the firmware installation has failed.

People can still flash the official firmware back onto their 390

If we do get first hand information, we may be able to make the firmware work for them, as there are many reasons, including operator error, incorrect DFU driver being installed by windows etc, which can cause the firmware not to be installed.
Hi,

This is my own personal experience. I was able to reflash the original firmware back to the radio.

If someone is interested in making OpenGD77 work on the MD-UV90, I am absolutely willing to help, please let me know how I can help

Do you have a MD9600 or UV380 which you have managed to install with the OpenGD77 firmware, using the same computer ?
i.e I've had people tell me they could not install the firmware onto their UV380 with the same symptoms that you have, but their problems were various things including drivers

Ive never had any issues with flashing any version of firmware on both of my MD-UV390s along with another friends UV390 and have never had my radios get stuck in the bootloader before.Someone can correct me if im wrong but the only difference between the MD-UV380 and MD-UV390 is the UV390 has a more rugged water resistant case other then the physical differences ive had no issues flashing OpenGD77 on any of them and ive even been able to flash back to the original TYT firmware just to test. Most Hams ive talked to who have had issues with flashing the UV380s/UV390s all boils down to either not having the correct driver installed(which is understandable) or they accidently selected the wrong radio while flashing. It also doesnt help that the TYT website doesnt always have the firmware needed in their downloads so ive had to use the wayback machine to access older versions of the website. Im actually working on putting together a UV380/UV390 Driver Firmware and CPS bundle that way people shouldnt have to look as hard if they need to restore their radios.

As far as we know there is no difference in the internal hardware, in terms of the CPU, memory, display, keypad, DMR chip etc

Its possible that the 390 could have some differences to perhaps the audio or RF components or PCB layout, but for the things which matter to the firmware, the UV380 and UV390 are identical

And also like how the Retevis RT-90 is a MD-9600 , and the Retevis RT-3S is a UV380 if you open the case and look at the PCB

BTW. Radioddity do not design or manufacture radios, they just rebrand other radios, inclduing the GD-77 (TYT MD760), GD-73 and even the new GD-88 is just a rebranded kydera 880

Understandable. Out of curiosity why is their an older firmware posted in the announcements?

There is a source code release as well as the latest beta and installation instructions

Normally we would not release the Beta source code, but we were pressed to do this so that people could convert the Beta firmware into Chinese.

Copy that. Reason I was wondering was I saw a release from 4/25 in the downloads and in the forums
