Re-read the manual section.
Also, are you running a recently beta release of the firmware?
Yes, the one with APRS beaconing in it.

Hence +W- works

As mentioned above, long press is the key.

On Right, which is mic's 'B' key on a MD-9600.
Hence, using P1 front panel key (which is SK2), or longpress mic 'D' key (which is the latched SK2 on the MD-9600), you switch up to 40W, then longpress 'B' key will select +W- power settings...

I will close the thread you created for the same topic.

Doesn't work from the front panel, I'll try the mic although I don't like using mics with buttons on them when mobile.
UPDATE> Yes, the microphone buttons work.
Thanks for the detailed instruction.
I have a couple buttonless Retevis mics that work fine on the QYT and Leixen mobiles I have but don't work with this Retevis RT-90. I need to see if I can rewire one to work.
In any case just a small "bug" - I can recalibrate the power levels so 40W on VHF is 50W if I ever feel the need - or map out the power vs current draw to see where things get dangerous

There is no Left/Right keys on the frontpanel, it's the rotary encoder which is assign to that, and it's no possible the make a long press using such kind of control.

Thanks for the explanation. In the USA it's technically illegal to use a handheld mic while driving  but one is more likely to get a ticket if it has more than a PTT control on it.

It’s not here in Ohio at least. There is a specific provision in the law that exempts amateur radio operation from the ban against other devices such as cell phones.

The CT state passed a similar exemption - but the feds threatened to withhold highway funds so the exemption was voided.
