MD-9600 Out of Band ?

Post by oh4ms » Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:16 am

Hi,
I received a couple of MD-9600, one with GPS from passion-radio last week.
Both items include sticker PLL2571. First I updated the item without GPS successfully.

Now I have a project with a version including GPS. I got display "SETTINGS UPDATED ''-with frames,
but after ENT-button the device has text "Out of Band' , and the radio is not functional and serial connection is not available any more without DFU-mode.

Both radios including the STM32F407-chip.

Luckily I got reverted back to the original factory firmware and it is functional oK.

However I'm interested find right way updating my device to OpenGd77... any sense and advice , please

The 2571 PLL chip is used in the V5 radio. So you need to load the V5 firmware.

"Settings Updated" is normal for first use. Just press ENT to accept.

"Out of band" indicates the frequency is outside the VHF or UHF range or it can mean that a valid codeplug has not been loaded.

OpenGD77 does not support the original TYT codeplug format, so you must build and load a new codeplug using the OpenGD77 CPS. The old manufacturers CPS and codeplugs will not work.

Hi Colin & co.
Thanks for the reply !

Yes, I had an experience with S/N: 2010A00625 successfully yesterday , without GPS.

I'm a bit surprised by the issue with this S/N: 2209A00076 with GPS.
I used firmware V5 (upper case) and OpenGd77/Extra/ don't give any choice (lower case) for factory firmware other than "MD9600-CSV(2571V5)-V26.45".

-------
"Operation.doc" have info:

Programming software: V1.27

Before using this new programming software, please use the model software named as TYT9600 factory V2.018 to set the model first, please read from this software first, and choose 144-146/430-440MHz, then write into radio, this is only for EU customers

And some ham will find the radio have only one band after upgrading, so please write also with this factory, please write above one UHF and below one VHF

-------

What is Factory Software ? Where is possible to download it ?
EDIT, I found (This The First one: MD9600_Customer_Factory) : https://www.hamdigitaal.nl/tyt-firmware/

OpenGD77 uses the same factory software for all versions. You only need to have this on your computer, you never need to load it into the radio.

The second part of your message is talking about the TYT firmware. None of this is relevent to OpenGD77. You do not need to do any of it.

The install procedure is the same for all versions of the radio. The only difference is which version of OpenGD77 you use.
So I am not sure exactly what problem you are seeing.

Colin.

The values shown for CC are beyond the normal range of 0 -15
(e.g. C85)

Your codplug is damaged

You will need to make a new one

..so, the view is after opengd77-firmware updated, not any codeplug.g77 uploaded yet.
After updating my device, S/N:2209A00076 serial connection is no longer functional without DFU-mode.

The only way is only back to factory firmware...

I'm not sure if the GPS on/off may occupy a serial connection... I will check when I'm back home.

You must load a GD77 codeplug, the official codeplug already in the radio is not supported.

Seem that OH4MS has problems accessing the radio after install of OpenGD77.

Is it the driver included in OpenGD77 installation that is used ?

I guess there is some driver conflict so Tomi , you need to check what happens in Windows Device manager when you connect the radio.

I'm including how it should look in device manager when you connect a radio with OpenGD77 software

I recall some problem with somenon- English versions of windows , where the device name "OpenGD77" Could not be read by the CPS, and the port has to be manually selected
