If your radio is hardware version 1 then it will have problems with the PA

You need to run full power to access repeaters

I don't think there is a simple modification you can make to the radio to fix this

Yes

I think V2.2 on the PCB means its a version 2 radio. But V2 / 2.1 is quite an old radio and may have the PA design problem

Do you know how old the radio is ?

The V2.1 board was the first version to be generally available. As far as I know the V1 PCBs never went into production. So it will have the PA rise time problem on low power.

My board is v2.1 and I haven't noticed any big issue, maybe with the lowest power settings below 5W

The problem only really shows itself on VHF DMR. Anything less than full power can cause the start of each transmitted burst to be clipped. This can lead to a poor BER at the receiving end even though the signal may be strong. UHF has the same problem but it is much less severe and not normally noticeable. This does vary between individual radios so you may be lucky.

The factory fixed this with a redesign of the PA stages in the V3 radios.
