MD-9600 and bug in GPS location copy ?

Post by ve2wkr » Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:22 pm

HI!
I noticed that once I have a GPS lock on my MD9600 the GPS coordinates copied from the GPS screen to the location screen in the "radio info" have a 2 decimal shift error as follows:
39.7000N 104.0500W
get copied as
39.0070N 104.0005W

this is on nov 26 2022 firmware.
Is this just a display bug issue ?
Or does it actually affect the calculations ?

This is probably a bug, caused by the changes to increase the GPS data storage resolution

It will need to go onto the ToDo list

I can't replicate this bug

But you are not using the latest available version.

Latest available is 28th November.

I've tested with both my latest build and also 18th November, and both work fine.

I'm also not sure what you mean by location copy.

The GPS position is automatically saved into the location data.

Are you using some function to copy / transfer the position?

Roger,

When I first implemented GPS there was a key combination to transfer the position. (I can't remember what it was though!) Has this been left active?

Colin.

I would need to check, but the master location variable is now constantly updated from the GPS value, so even if there was some legacy code , it seems unlikely that the value from the old code would be present for more than 1 sec, when it would be replaced by the new GPS data value

HI!
Sorry for the delay , I was out of town. I checked , and with the Nov 26th version on HW v5
it does not copy the GPS coordinates by itself . I have to push "D" for 2s then "B".
The location is then copied, but with the error I described above ( 2 decimal position shift )
However after updating to the Nov 28th version, it all works fine as expected.
Thanks

OK.

Generally we recommend people use the latest Alpha or Beta
