RT-90 contacts max 1024?

Post by DL2CC » Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:42 am

Hi there,

OpenGD77 works nicely on my RT-90, although the usability of keys needs getting used to :-) I have a hard time using the radio in VFO mode. But that's fine, just have to work on the Codeplug some more.

I'd like to import DMR contacts with the Internet download function. Which works nicely. However, I am limited to 1024 contacts.
According to Retevis, the radio can store 10000 contacts. Is there any way to lift the limit?

Are you describing the official firmware or the OpenMD9600.
Why do you quote what Retevis say for their official firmware ?

You also appear to be confusing Digital Contacts with Digital ID's
Digital Contacts are used to create TalkGroups, or for stations you want to make Private Calls to.

To display the callsign and name and other details of a received station all radios use a DMR ID database.

The OpenMD9600 firmware can store more than 350k DMR ID's, i.e more than the total number of registered DMR users in the whole world.

I am describing the OpenMD9600 firmware.
Thanks for the info, I was confusing "Digital Contacts" with "Download callsign database".
As for the 10.000 limit, I didn't know that was a limit of the original firmware - thought that'd be the physical limit of the radio.
All set now, downloaded DMR ID database, very quick upload, all set.
Thank you for your fine piece of engineering and help!

There is a limit of 1024 Digital Contacts as part of the codeplug format inherited from the GD77, but I think the official RT-90 codeplug format also has the same limit, because there is no practical requirement for anyone to need to make private calls to that number of Digital Contacts or to define that many TalkGroups, especially as TG numbers can be entered manually on the fly by pressing #NNN
