The PCB version number is interesting.

My MD-9600 is well over a year old and has V4A written on the PCB, but I thought someone reported seeing V5 on their PCB about 6 months ago

V4A and V5 seem to be identical hardware, and to save confusion this firmware version is called V5

V4 radios have a different IF chip which has software selectable bandwith, V4A / V5 has separate IF chips for 12.5kHz and 25kHz operation
I just noticed what might be a date code right below (and to the right) the M1-V4A printing, as "2247", which might mean the date of 2022 week 47.

It's interesting (but not very good to you guys as developers!) that TYT kept changing hardware inside, not sure to improve quality or to save cost, and this is quite annoying to have to find out all these differences.

Thanks Roger!

The reason TYT had to change the hardware design in previous verisons, is that chips became obsolete.

I think originally they used a Chinese made PLL chip, but it was no longer available so they changed to a Texas Instruments PLL in later radios (V4 I think)

Probably the IF chip change in the V4A was for a similar reason.

Here is a pic I just took of the PCB from the top side:

Top board looks different to mine

Your board has M1-V4A, but I'm pretty sure my had MD-9600 UV V4A written on it

It appears that TYT will continue to produce the MD-9600 now that they are using the non-genuine CPU in this radio.

I checked the Radioddity website and the MD-9600 is still showing as Discontinued, but I suspect this may change if TYT are now able to supply them with this radio.

Various AliExpress vendors are still selling the MD-9600 with stock levels of around 50 radios.

For those in the US the MD-9600 is in stock at R and L, link below

https://www2.randl.com/index.php?main_p ... s_id=73770

They also have it for $10 more with a decent 30amp power supply. This is the way I got my first MD-9600 a few years back. This is seems a good deal considering the cost of a 30amp PS stand alone.

I ordered one of these P.S. plus Radio specials when this vendor first started offering it. Sadly the radio was over 4 years old based on the serial number (which starts with the date of manufacture coded into it). The vendor was great about taking the shipment back, so I had no reason to complain.

SO...caveat emptor applies here om's !!

I thought someone already posted photos of their new MD-9600 with the TYT (unbranded) CPU working OK

So I don't think there is a need to find old stock

I just purchased one of the new ones with the unbranded CPUs and it’s working wonderfully with the open source firmware.

I actually ordered my 2nd one from LGR a while ago and received it not long ago also.
I just went to LGR to look and see in RED: "New Hardware New Firmware"

Is this added since you purchased yours?
