DMR mic gain

Post by VK3KYY » Wed Jan 05, 2022 4:18 am

Anyone testing this, could you let me know if the DMR Tx audio is possibly too loud

I think the value may be between 3 and 6db higher than the GD77, but does not seem to be clipping, so its probably subjective whether its considered too loud or not.

I use BAFENG DM 1801. The "DMR Mic" option set to + 12dB.
For TYT MD 9600 (Ver. V2), the "DMR Mic" option set to + 6dB.
Recipients receive a signal from both devices at a similar level.

Perhaps there is a lot of variation in mic level between different radios.

I was told today that at 0dB on my V2.1 hardware radion, that the audio was quiter than when using my GD77.

But also other people reported that they need to set their mic gain to -6dB on the MD9600 to reduce distortion

I think I will need to change the baseline to reduce the default gain at the 0dB setting, by -6dB, but some people may then needs to increase their mic gain setting if it is too quiet
