To all testers

Currently I think there may be a problem with DMR Tx 4FSK deviation level.
Several people reported that the BER is high when using Duplex Hotspots.

Its also possible that the factory frequency calibration is not very accurate.

At the moment the OpenGD77CPS is not compatible with the MD9600 calibration data, because it is a completely different format to the GD77.
So the only way for operators to calibrate the frequency is to reload the official firmware and uzs the official CPS to make changes

Also on DMR Rx, some radios have clicking.
Colin just sent me a possible fix for this, which I need to test.

Note.
The key mapping is definitely a problem, P1 as SK2 is currently not fully working , nor is P2 for SK1.

Personally, I would prefer to us the front pansl rotary control always for Up/Down, and the Arrow keys (Up / Down) on the front panel as Left / Right

But I know some people prefer the existing mapping.

I will probably make a new setting / option to allow the operator to select between these 2 ways of using the front panel Rotary control and Up/ Down buttons

V2 hardware DMR modulation problems at low power levels

FYI.

MD9600 hardware version 2.x have known DMR modulation levels on low power settings.

This seems to be most noticable by people trying to use these radios with hotspots.

Anyone experiencing these problems, should try using higher power levels to see if it fixes the hotspot BER problems.

Hi,

Just to mention, the Retevis RT90 is the same beast as the TYT MD-9600, it just uses different version numbering.

Cheers.

Good point.

I'll update the titles

Anyone subscribe to this thread. Please note I've made a MD-9600 specific section on the forum

Fun fact, but currently not too relevant: hotspot mode works fine. :)

Could any forum members own a MD9600 and would be willing to test an Alpha version of the firmware, please reply to this thread, and I will then contact you via email with more details about the current status of the firmware etc.

Please, VK3KYY, may you send me a copy of the firmware?

I would like to test it on my MD9600.

Many thanks.

Enzo

We are currently fixing some bugs and will make the firmware more widely available next week.

Currently I can't make the firmware available for everyone download, because of potential legal problems.
These are the same legal problems which we had on the GD77 last year, and require me to write a loader / patcher application.
We can't simply use the GD77 patcher + loader system, becuase the bootloader in the MD9600 uses a completely different protocol.

this is very exciting even though I don't own a MD-9600.

My friend owns an old version (forgot if it's 1 or 2) and he confirmed that in the highest 2 power settings the BER was so high he couldn't get it into his local DMR repeater properly (while his other radios could). At first it was thought to be only on one band but later it was thought to be on both.

It is rather strange that TYT didn't catch this before they released the older versions, and took 2 or 3 iterations to get it right. I think TYT sometimes rushed out their products and they had more bugs. This in comparison w/ Anytone, which often delayed their release of new products, but they seem to carry fewer serious bugs (while often have more features).

I own an RT-3s, so it'll be also exciting when Roger and team will get to that eventually.

Thanks Roger and the other devs on this! Congrats!
I have been given a version 2.1 hardware radio, and it seems to work OK, so possibly its just some radios which have the hardware problems, e.g. depending on individual component tollerances

I thought the problem was that low power settings can't access repeaters, because the PA does not ramp up its power fast enought to transmit the beginning of each DMR timeslot pulse
