Hi all, Was very active with the Open GD77 Project & helped many on TGIF Network.
Always recovered MD380’s but not this 9600.
How Can you tell if you have a GPS Version?
S/N 2006T00945
So I assume this is a Version 4
Factory read
CPS V01.28
Hardware V02.08
MCU D026.038
Flashed to D016.045 and lost TX & RX
Tried several versions back and same results
Any help appreciated

Hi,

HW version is written on the PCB, you need to remove the top cover.
If you lost RX/TX, maybe you flashed the wrong version FW.

Cheers.

I assume you are talking about the official TYT firmware.

If you have lost Tx and Rx then you have probably loaded the wrong version of the firmware. The main difference between the versions is the PLL synthesiser chips, so the wrong firmware will result in the synthesisers not working.

From your serial number I would agree that it looks like you have the V4 radio which needs the TYT 16.24 firmware.
(The 16.xx indicates it is for the V4 radios. 06.xx is for the earlier V1-V3 radios and 26.xx is for the V5 radios. )

TYT themselves don't have a good firmware download page but they will send you the firmware if you contact their customer services.

A reliable download source is https://www.passion-radio.com/index.php ... chment=551

GPS fitted radios normally have a large 'GPS' sticker on the side of the radio.

Having said all that you may want to wait a while until we release the OpenMD9600 firmware. It will be worth the wait and we have versions for all of the radios.

Hi Colin,
As usual, Thanks for your quick response.
The think that was confusing is the as received firmware was D 026.038.
I have tried several version's and same issue.
I will await the release of the new version.
Getting old, but still love to tinker, that's what we get for trying to stay current.
The release I am running D016.045 Came from either the TYT or Retevis site, but I've tried several.
I did try 16.24 also
Thanks again and stay safe, healthy & happy.

I guess it is possible that you may have an early V5 radio, But I thought those had a 21xx serial number.

The passion-radio.com site has the V5 firmware (26.xx) , that might be worth a try.

Does a hard reset exist for these radio's?
I'll try the 26 version, nothing to lose.
When you do release the firmware, my email is good on QRZ.
Thanks Colin

The V4A (aka V5) firmware that worked with my brand new radio was

https://www.passion-radio.com/index.php ... chment=760

But it seems unlikely that your radio would use that version.

I've heard of someone else who had a radio which would not transmit or recieve. They tried firmware for hardware verions 2,4 and 5 on the radio and it made no difference, so perhaps there is a systemic fault on the MD9600 which causes this.

Mine came with D026.038.
I tried the D026.045 and still no go.
Roger you should remember me from early Open GD77 day's.
Helped out alot of Blind Hams & guys on TGIF. I am friends with Andy G7LRR & TY KG5RKI.
Roger, it appears this may be a good radio for Beta Testing, Whatca Think?

If it doesn't work with any of the official firmware versions, the OpenMD9600 is probably not going to work either.

A friend of a friend had a MD9600 of unknown heritage, which would not Tx or Rx.

I sent them all versions of the OpenMD9600 (V2, 4 and 5) to test, but none worked.
