[Radio model not supported] New Baofeng 1801 won't enter in upload mode

Anything specifically related to the DM-1801 version of the firmware

Can someone confirm whether these new DM1801 radios are DMR ?

Someone posted that they are FM only.
Mine is definitely DMR. It share the same exact menu structure of the "old" DM 1801. Also same paper manual in the box.

Also, can you confirm whether the USB cable contains a chip in the plug / dongle end ?
You can check this by using a continuity tester to see which pins in the USB plug connect to which of the pads on the 2.5 and 3.5mm jack plugs
As usual there is no programming cable in the box. I already have one on its way.
With the "old" cable (serial one) I can't access it in any way.

If Baofeng had re-engineered this radio, they would have probably replaced the CPU and C6000 DMR Chip, with the C7000 DMR chip which also contains a CPU.
However the C7000 has built in USB support and does not use a chip in the cable.
Maybe it's only a bootloader modification. With causual key strokes, for example, I was able to enter the "ageing" function which do not start with the same key combo of the old DM 1801.

The other thing you could do, is open the radio and look at what chips are inside, but I doubt anyone is willing to do this.
I'm willing, but not now as I just got an eye surgery.

OK.

Usually the DM1801 cable is the same as the RD5R cable, but not the same as the GD77 (and TYT cables).

The USB D+ and D- are reversed in Baofeng cables.

Possibly this is a re-engineered DM-1801 using a HR-C7000 DMR + CPU chip instead of the HR-C6000 DMR chip and separate NXP MK22 CPU.

Unfortunately there is very little information about the HR-C7000 chip, and it uses a Chinese processor core not an ARM core (like most other CPUs). So at the moment there is no possibility of writing firmware for any radios with HR-C7000 CPU's in them.

This what I was able to get right now. I don't have a soldering iron with me so I couldn't detach the speaker in order to remove completely open it an detach the main PCB.
From what I can see It's a completely different hardware, based on the internal picture of the old DM-1801 that I can find online.

Thanks for the photos.

Yes it is a completely different radio.

In the old DM1801 one of the big IC's is on that side of the PCB

You would need to unsolder the antenna connector to take the PCB out.

The names of the test pads on the PCB are not whats normal for ARM based processors, which use SWD programming connections.
The pad names on that PCB look like the are for Serial / RS232 style data

Right now I won't do it. I have to think about reselling it or keeping.
If I'm keeping it I could go for a full disassembly.

They could be for debugging purpose, If I'm keeping it I will attach it to the logic analyzer.

These radios are definitely not the same hardware.

I will need to change the documentation to show than only the DM-1801 Version 1 hardware accepts the open firmware

Litong Technology Co., Ltd.
AM6102/AM6103 Digital TalkbackRadio Module

Features: cost-effective, highly integrated, easy to use, rich peripherals, relay, automatic power-saving,low-power sleep mode, automatic tail tone elimination, support secondary development for SMS message.

AM6102: miniaturized analog/DMR/ADR digital radio module

Built-in DMR protocol stack/ADR protocol stack.

AM6103: miniaturized analog/PDT digital radio module

Built-in PDT conventional protocol stack .

Application fields: industrial data transmission, IoT, professional walkie-talkie, electric power testing, etc.

I will need to chang the list of supported radios to show only the DM1801 Version 1 is supported, because it will be impossible to support the new DM1801 and we keep it in the list many people will be dissapointed because the new version is not supported.

I'm checking the correct pinout for this cable, the default is RS232, the truth is that the cable to UV-5R is not compatible, the TXD pin is inverted, tomorrow I will build a cable for testing.

Its common for these sorts of radio modules to update via serial / rs232, so its possible that this radio is now the same.
Do you have an official firmware update file for this radio?

It will be impossible to support this new type of DM1801 because the manufacturer of the RF module does not release data sheets etc
