Unfortunately I can't remember what USB device is detected when a C7000 chip is in the radio.
Hi Roger,

On my MD-430 (aka GD-73), which has the C7000 chip, it is detected as "walkie-talkie-C7000" in the Device Manager, after a (not so easy / smooth) driver installation process.

So I assume other C7000 based radios might be seen as this as well, if they use the same driver.

This new 1801 A6 is certainly interesting. Given the confusing world of Baofeng analog radios in the past, I am not too surprised about this. Ironically the confusion on the analog world is about different shells, specs, minor features, packaging etc, but the chipset stays the same.

The MD-760 is still available, but mostly sold out of China. I haven't seen any reseller outside of China carrying this model. I think one can buy one from Aliexpress as I have seen it listed there not too long ago.

Where did you download your Gd73 C7000 driver?

I have not been able to update my GD77 since updating to Windows 10 in 2020, hence by GD73 is fairly useless as I can't update the firmware or codeplug

I'm waiting for 5 Baofeng DM1801 sent from China (M&M is the vendor). I've read of fake DM1801 models not flashable with OPENGD77 fw.
What is a quick check to verify this?
Maybe to enter DFU mode?
I've read also of different labelled (blue instead of orange) battery pack that should be a sign of fake models
Any suggestion?
TIA es 73

They are not 'fake' radios, its just that Baofeng completely changed the electronics and cpu etc inside the radio, but didn't change the model number.

The new model does uses a completely / incompatible CPU and AFIK there isn't a firmware loader even for the official firmware

I am using a very recent Windows 10 for my GD-73 (aka my MD-430 but now running GD-73 firmware) and GD-77, no problem for both for updating firmware or read/write cp etc.

I gave one of my MD-430 to a friend of mine (as I have bought quite a few), and yesterday during out meet up, he told me that he couldn't get the driver to work on his computer. On mine, it took 3 tries, and a long run of the installer (5 mins). It is a very weird process. the installer acted as if it's one of those ghetto universal driver intaller out there, trying to scan and match everything up, thus taking forever.

For the firmware, I used the latest GD-73 on my MD-430. For the CPS, I used the one on TYT's website as it seems to have a slightly later version, but I am not 100% sure. It seems to have worked well.

Good luck!

Thanks.

Made some progress updating the official firmware on my GD73.
I still need to install the official CPS for this radio but it wanted to terminate Skype before it would install, which seems very strange, so I'll put the CPS on another less important PC

Hello Colleagues,

Anybody had more information (or news) about this new 1801? I received my radio today and i'm trying to update the firmare?

I managed to connect the radio in computer with the cable that I receive with the radio (the radio gets the memory mode and flash the red light).

Did you receive a specific firmware upgrade for the new A6 model of the 1801 ?

As said many times in this forum, the new Baofeng 1801 contains a complete different hardware/firmware,
just looks like the old one from the outside. In fact, it is complete different radio with the old name and look.
Unfortunately, there is - NO WAY - to load OpenGD77 firmware in this A6 model - and there are no chances
to do so in the future.

Correct ! Unfortunately I will not have the features of Open GD77, I will be hoping that in the near future someone develops a firmware similar to open gd77 for this radio. So far I could not find out if it is possible to update the firmware of this radio.

As for the DM-1801 version 1 I couldn't find more to buy...

It's better to do something similar to anytone 878, which is much more powerful radio!
