Umm

If you backed up each radio separately then restore the backups to the same radios, I don't see how you can have a problem with the version

Unless you are saying that you are installing a different official version of the firmware to the version prior to the installation of the OpenGD77 firmware

It looks like the Baofeng firmware stores a version number in Flash, which may prevent updates of even their own firmware under some circumstances

I'm 100% certain that the same development company in China writes the Radioddity / TYT and Baofeng firmware, despite those 2 hardware manufacturer companies being competitors of each other.

But the Baofeng firmware seems to be customised with additional protection measures, which can cause problems.

Radiodidty / TYT also have some very stupid copy protection measures in their firmware, which have even worse side effects than the Baofeng firmware, and some people need to completely erase and reload the micrprocessor in the radio using a hardware dongle.

yes I think I lost with version 2.1.9 (I can only hope that a newer firmware from baofeng will be available soon, which will also support the encryption again

they advertise their encryption (which does not seem to work with the latest firmware)

sad sad

if there is a solution in the future i will probably be able to read it here (i will stay on the ball)

@VK3KYY

good page !

I've tried all of them but there doesn't seem to be a way back

Is it not possible to change version 2.1.9 with a hex editor as if it were version 2.5.5 (it works fine)

I wonder why version 2.5.5 works and everything that is lower is not

yes anyone already tested version 2.0.9 or 2.1.9 ?

the question is has it ever worked and why has it been deleted from baofeng's homepage

I'm sure there is a solution, but it's hard to find

baofeng have turned something a kind of protection I think (so wanted)

I have no idea.

Baofeng always make their firmware very hard to get hold of, and don't document what they have changed or why.

But I no longer use the official firmware, as I am only using the radio for Ham use, and the OpenGD77/OpenDM1801 has all the feature I need

no matter thanks for your effort (i have no idea any more)

the open firmware is the best no question (unfortunately without encryption) but it is the best

but this problem with the firmware 2.1.9 also has others like I have just read

sp7pki.iq24.pl forum to read

so now it stands firm for me !

baofeng is the guilty one

yesterday I received 2 brand new devices from a friend (arrived in the mail yesterday)

I immediately tried to play the original firmware v2.1.9 on it

then the device is switched on and lo and behold the same message comes up `LOW BT VERSION`

it was never open gd 77 on the device and the message comes up

means baofeng does not want to allow updates which is lower

but no matter my friend now uses open gd 1801 firmware and is satisfied

I now ask baofeng by email how it should go to get version 2.1.9 on the box

I just wanted to report :D

OK

The only way would be to hack decrypt the sgl file and then hack the binary to remove that check.

Not an easy job.

There are at least two versions of Baofeng 1801 radios. One difference is flash memory size (1 Mb vs 2 Mb). Is that the reason for your problems?

Though I can't imagine why firmware for smaller flash memory would not run with larger memory... Of course the codeplug would have to be reset when switching between 2.2.* and older firmware...

that's exactly the right way

but i have no idea about hacking

but I do not give up ! i read a lot on the internet until i find a solution (i hope)

because as it seems none of the bf 1801 owners can go back without a usable solution

baofeng wants to tell us what to eat :x
