I don't understand the question about "spectrum analyser firmware". I used a stand-alone device.
OK.

My miss understanding... I thought perhaps you use some RTL-SDR software.

I have a TinySA but I've not used it very much.

I think there is some SDR spectrum analysers but I've not tried them.

This thread is not about frequency calibration.

If your radio is off frequency you will need to adjust it using the OpenGD77 CPS calibration function in the extras menu. Make sure that you use the latest version of the CPS. This was recently updated to correct a problem with DMR frequency accuracy.

USB cable does not install as COM port

Post by kc2ovx » Tue Mar 16, 2021 11:05 pm

I see the cable listed as 2 devices:

HID Compliant
VID 15A2 PID 0073

and

USB Input

VID 15A2 PID 0073

I ran the driver install program and this is what it installed

Is there a way to manually download the drivers I need and manually put them in using the update driver in the control panel ?

Thanks

Bill

USB\VID_15A2&PID_0073&REV_0002

HID\VID_15A2&PID_0073&REV_0002
HID\VID_15A2&PID_0073
HID_DEVICE_UP:FF00_U:0001
HID_DEVICE

This is the data in the control panel.

It is not an FTDI,

I did an search and only came up with one reference that it might be a Silicon Labs, but I installed that driver and it said there is no device in my system matching their driver.

Has anyone seen this cable before ?

If you are seeing the cable on its own as a USB device then it is not the correct cable for use with the GD77.

The GD77 cable has no electronics in it, so it will not be seen by the computer on its own. The radio is the USB device and is only seen by the computer when it is connected and turned on. It uses the driver included with the CPS download.

The V 1.0.0.4 programming software reads and writes, but the firmware updater does not see a COMM Port, so it can't find the radio

Anyone ever have this issue ?

I am pressing both side buttons, which it says to do to put it in Firmware mode and I get a blank screen

But no luck reading or writing the firmware

I am trying to program a RD-5R not the GD77

Does that make a difference ?

What firmware do you have installed on the radio.

The VID/PID of the OpenGD77 (which applies equally to the RD-5R), is

USB\VID_1FC9&PID_0094&REV_0101
USB\VID_1FC9&PID_0094

This is not a HID device, it a COM port device

I don't currently have a RD-5R running the official firmware, so I have no idea what VID/PID the official firmware appears as.
But as far as I can see the radio you are connecting is not running the OpenGD77 firmware.

Hi,

As Roger asked, which firmware is installed on your RD-5R ?
In bootloader mode, the HT is a HID device VID:15a2, PID:0073. While in "nornal" mode, it's a COM port, VID:1fc9, PID:0094.
With the manufacturer firmware, the device is always in a HID one, and not supported by the OpenGD77 CPS.

Cheers.

I am using the stock firmware, the radio is right out of the box.

Radio:
BF-5R

CPS v1.1.5
H-version:
V1.0.3
Software:
V2.01.03
DSP Version
HRC6000
V1.2.6
Program Time:
2021
3.16
20:04

How do I get the modified firmware loaded on it if the cable and radio won't show up as a Comm Port ?

I must be missing something

Is there a special cable required ?
