Looking for a RD5R
Re: Looking for a RD5R
What about using a Baofeng DM=1701 with OpenGD77 instead?
Re: Looking for a RD5R
Ok, good point. Let us know!
Re: Looking for a RD5R
It is working now, I've never messed around with SMD soldering before. This radio has taught me so many things.
Re: Looking for a RD5R
That’s terrific! Congratulations!
What is the change in memory? How many contacts before and after!

Re: Looking for a RD5R
BTW: They now sell the High Capacity Batteries with USB-C charging ports built in.
How much did the parts cost you to add memory and did you have to flash any ROM to recognize this new memory chip?

Re: Looking for a RD5R
The actual part cost me $2.4 ($11.99/5). I have ordered them from Amazon.com here. However, because this is my first SMD soldering project, I messed up and damaged the board. Now, to be able to fix the board, I need a lot of things like the Microscope, Scalpel knife, and high temp masking tape.
It was a great experience, and actually this is what Ham radio is in my opinions. We play with things, trying to make it the way we want, break it along the way, and fix it. Learning and gathering new skill doing all of that.
Re: Looking for a RD5R
Did you upgrade the memory chip?
When did you purchase it and from whom?
