Release Candidate (2022 02 20)

Post by VK3KYY » Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:59 pm

There is a new "Release Candidate" version available

downloads/ReleaseCandidate_20220220/firmware/

There is a also a updated CPS

downloads/ReleaseCandidate_20220220/Ope ... .18.01.exe

Other changes since the last version

* CC Filter option has been removed from the Quick Menu, because on some radios constantly scanning for the CC seems to cause problems with the C6000 DMR chip which results in the firmware crashing.

The option to disable CC filtering was never actually disabling the filter. Initially this function was called CC Scan, and was started using the QuickMenu option, but after some improvements by Colin G4EML, to the CC scanning algorithm, this functionality was renamed to CC Filter and the scanning happened every time a new DMR signal not on the same CC was received.

However, recently its become clear that this feature is not reliable on all radios, possibly due to hardware differences in the C6000 DMR chip, causing the chip to give erronous outputs.

So the decision has been made to remove this function from the Quick menu, becuse functionality to detect the CC of a DMR signal is also in the Monitor Mode functionality

To detect the CC of a DMR signal, press and hold button SK2 (Blue), to enter monitor mode, and if the signal is DMR the CC scan function will start and will find the CC of the signal

* Bug fix to DMR Rx signal display when SK2 is pressed during DMR Rx

* CPS now detects if the Radio Type which has been selected does not match the radio which is connected, and the CPS will switch to the correct radio type.

Thanks to Daniel F1RMB for his work on this changes and fixes, to both the CPS and firmware

I really don't know what's a big deal about this CC scan (filter:off)...

Roger, just leave it as it is now. It is not intended to be used for an hour and a half, as user above (and many others) do.

You find unknown signal, scan it, find CC, use it. That's it! No need for running CC scan for hour(s).

Just leave it. Too many hours is spent on it already. You can't make every option foolproof. It's not space shuttle navigation program, it's just a ham radio FW. ;)

Could this CPS be built with the serial port selection included. I realize this is probably a problem that seems solved, but being able to select the serial port manually is the only way I can get this CPS to function under Windows 11 on ARM. The com driver installer only has drivers for x86 and x86_64 architectures. The driver installation process on a windows ARM machine does however create a generic serial port for the GD77 without the name "OpenGD77". When I use the experimental CPS, I can read and write the code plugs to this phone just fine. With the newest CPS however, the serial port selection has been removed and I can no longer use my laptop for testing. Assuming the inclusion of the port selection screen doesn't negatively affect thee software in anyway, I would like to request that it be added back to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the software. Thank you for your time.

Jess, KK7DNF,

the latest CPS has a com port selection, click on the Read / Write symbols from/to your device, it will ask you to select a com port.
