SK1 behaviour: backlight and channel info

Post by EA2EQM » Mon Jul 05, 2021 6:53 pm

I wouldn't say this is a bug, just something that I find annoying:

When backlight is set to manual, SK1 turns it on or off with a short press.
If I want to check channel frequencies, I need to press and hold the SK1 key, which
• turns the backlight on, then off, then on again (not so bad) or
• turns the backlight off, then on, then off again -> and there is no way to check the frequencies if it's dark.

I am aware that I can change the duration of the keypress via Options, but so long as the long press is longer than the short one [duh] the outcome will be the same.

Would it be possible to make the SK1 button smarter?
Is there a way to exchange short and long press for just one key via CPS?
Am I missing something?

I'm running the latest beta available for the RD-5R, and it has been like that for at least a year.

The SK1 is already "smart" ;) . I just checked that, and that's definitely a regression.

Cheers.

Okay, fixed.

It will be part of the next release (bug was here since Sep 2020).

Cheers.

Thank you very much.

For the record, I checked my other RD-5R which was running an older version of the firmware. I don't remember which version —just updated to latest beta—, but it was from June 2020 if I'm not mistaken [hotspot option still available], and the SK1/backlight was behaving the same way as described in post #1.
