Hi all,

Dan, W1MUZ from NH checking in. Just getting started on DMR, and ordered a TYT MD-UV390. Not my first go with digital voice...I'm pretty active on Fusion. Wanted to learn more about DMR, so in looking around saw the 390 had decent reviews and price point. In that same research, I saw lots of good stuff about OpenGD77, especially vs. the stock firmware.

Looking forward to learning and enjoying!

Welcome

I'm not sure if you aware, but TYT changed the CPU in the UV380/390 and the new radios are not compatible with the firmware

Thanks, I did read that, but thought that it appeared that the issue was wtih the non-GPS versions of the radio....I got the GPS so hoping all goes according to plan!

Hi Dan

I've changed your username to your callsign, as its site policy

Re: GPS / Non-GPS versions

The first person to report the problem, just happened to have a Non-GPS version he bought recently and some other GPS versions, which must have come from old stock

I think people have subsequentially posted saying their GPS version also doesn't work

The GPS and Non-GPS versions have idential hardware on the main board. Its just that the GPS module is omitted from the front panel PCB.

Noted on the username, thanks!

Got the UV390 GPS today, and was successful in loading OpenGD77 firmware, and uploading a codeplug (NEDECN codeplug from the forums). Must have gotten lucky and gotten some new, old stock!

Thanks,
Dan

OK.

Glad your radio had the genuine CPU

Thanks, so was I! It was an easy process to install the OpenGD77 firmware, update the NEDECN codeplug for my information, and get it on the radio! Great stuff here and looking forward to using the radio more!

I don't know what the "NEDECN codeplug" is, but I'm glad the radio is working for you

Guess it was "New England Digital Emergency Communications Network"
