Re: Recent versions of firmware will be removed
The remedy is to release the source code for the builds you already distributed. I don't understand what you are talking about. The source code was free to download on github, so it was released? Yes, it's still a problem that the firmware uses a binary blob owned by DVSI, but you're not likely to ...

Re: Recent versions of firmware will be removed
The official firmware sections are not just closed source they are hacked from a protected encrypted binary file. If the manufacturer was not chinese, and not benefiting from extra sales of their hardware, this project would have been slapped with a shutdown order a long time That is quite interest...

Re: Recent versions of firmware will be removed
Roger, first a big thank you from me and the hundreds of people using this firmware. I am not entirely sure what the problem with the licence is, but I am confident it can be fixed. The various open source licensed were drafted to protect developments like this one and not the other way around. Can ...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
I don't understand the question about "spectrum analyser firmware". I used a stand-alone device.

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
The OpenGD77 updates the screen during Tx to show the mic level and also the talk timer, this may cause a small ticking on the GD77 and may be unavoidable. That may be an explanation. The ticking and other noises on the RD5R are probably a product of some undocumented tricks with the AT1846S RF chi...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
Re: Ticking sound on the RD5R This is probably caused by bad regulation of voltages in the radio, but somehow the official firmware limits the change to current and hence limits the noise because of bad voltage regulation. There is no ticking sound on my RD-5R. Let me summarize my findings again: B...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
If I understood correctly, only the GD77 has separate PA for VHF and UHF. The GD77 works reasonably well when using the open firmware, therefore the correct PA is most probably used. If the wrong PA was used, we would not get reasonable results as to spectrum and power, yet we do. There are still so...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
Now on the Baofeng RD-5R. Manufacturer's software installed back. This is the FM spectrum. You'll notice that the spikes are gone: baof_fm_s.jpg This is the DMR spectrum, with added attenuation. It is a lot cleaner, but there is a strange extension at frequencies above the main signal. baof_dmr_s.jp...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
So, here is the latest info. First, the measurements above are probably an error. I think that the spectrum analyser was saturated by the DMR spikes as a signal which was attenuated externally showed no spikes. The same signal on an offset also showed no spikes (this is how I found out). I first rei...

Re: Experimental Baofeng RD-5R version
I probably made a mistake in measuring spike power. The spectrum analyser has an automatic attenuator which was probably fooled by the DMR spikes. I did not notice it switched itself on and off. I added a warning to the original messages.
More measurements are coming.
