Pre-release 22nd April

Post by VK3KYY » Wed Apr 22, 2020 8:04 am

Both Daniel and me have continuing to bug fix and add features to the firmware.

This pre-release is still a work in progress, but it fixes some bugs I caused by changing the frequency limits, and has some new features from Daniel, which are still partially in development
  • I've now fixed a bug caused by extending the overall frequency limits, which was screwing up the power output, by incorrectly calculating the calibration data table addresses, as they are based on the published band limits for the AT1846S chip (in its datasheet).
  • Daniel has added a feature to control the FM mic gain and also to show the FM mic input as a bar graph, like in DMR mode.
Note. Currently the FM mic bar graph input is prior to the FM mic gain control, so changing the FM mic gain does not affect the bar graph, and this is something we still need to improve, however the scale of the mic gain control is not documented, so I'll need to measure change in mic volume on another radio in order to try to understand the mic gain units.
  • Daniel spotted an overflow in the master reference oscillator calibration, which has now been partially fixed, but I'm going to do a further fix to prevent unexpected frequency calibration values being applied.
  • I spotted a bug in the FM Rx filter settings and also a small improvement that could be made to the DMR Tx, to prevent any stray / induced audio on the mic input to the AT1846S baseband RF chip, causing fluctuations in the transmitted 4FSK signal.

I noticed a problem with the functioning of the new CPS Open GD77 enabling the use of a suitable loader depending on the radio model. When uploading the file to GD77 everything is done correctly, but after choosing the RD-5R radio and pointing to the right file, nothing happens and in addition the program itself freezes. I am forced to use the proprietary program for uploading firmware to RD-5R.

I noticed the problem after uploading the latest software from 22.04 to GD 77, namely it is not possible to switch the red button between VFO and channel. After pressing this key during listening in the conversation switches to VFO, but there is no longer returning to listening in on the conversation. Only turning the radio off and on again gives you the option to return to the conversation you are listening to.

I can't reproduce this bug.

Please give details of modes and timeslots etc for both the channel and the VFO
