Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
I think it may be possible to increase the DMR ID database size, to around 40,000 IDs, and with compression added as well, we could store over 60,000 ID's
However we would need to overwrite the display fonts used by the official firmware, so that if you reloaded the official firmware it would not work.
This would require a change to the firmware, but the firmware could be made to work in either mode.
And it would require a change to the CPS, but I don't think that would be too difficult.
I wonder how many people ever want to switch back to using the official firmware on their radios.
If they did, it would still be possible as long as they had backed up their flash memory, but even if they hadn't it would still be possible to patch together the flash as the fonts are the same on all radios, so I could put a default backup of the flash onto github for people to use.

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
Hi Roger,
I will never go back to the 'official' firmware
I don't have any DMR id's either, I reply solely on talker alias

Ken
Thanks.
I occasionally load the official firmware, but only as part of the development to compare what the radio does.
The DMR ID is mainly used by people on the DMR MARC / DMR+ network as it doesn't support Talker Alias

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
I mostly use either BrandMeister or Simplex. So TA would suffice for me. Getting 60K+ contacts would just be a side benefit for me, although I think it's the DM-MARC users who would benefit most.
I do not find the need to go back to stock firmware, although the use case of that would be as a workaround in case something gets seriously messed up (e.g., calibration) and a revert to stock before another openGD77 update would be the solution.

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
The calibration data would not get touched.
Its other data that would get overwritten, and we don't know why what that data does, but its probably the same for all radios.
So the solution to reverting would be to backup the calibration using the CPS.
Then restore a template / default Flash file (all of flash), then restore the Calibration.

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
Hi Roger.
No reason to go back. OpenGD77 IS the firmware for this radio.
I use the database so an increase would be helpfull TA is ok but we never know what networks will be available in the future which might not have it as some do now.
Cheers Matt.

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
I’ve never actually uploaded a DMRID database and just use TA at present.
How many DMRID’s can you store currently?
Thanks
Tony

Re: Increasing the size of the DMR ID database?
Just over 13,000 (assuming you set the data length to its max of 16 characters)
If you only want to store 6 character callsigns (and not names), it can hold 26,000
The official firmware can store 10,000 callsigns, but does not have the facility to store names at all

Thanks for the info Roger.
