Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
Is he using repeater, or hotspot? If hotspot, what are MMDVM settings? If hotspot is set for use with MD-380, then GD-77 will work poorly on it, as you know (and me too, cause I have both). BTW, MD-390 doesn't have problems with duplex hotspot (I have that one too), just FYI.
Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
I think that station was probably using the Tier1 version and has now only just updated to a Tier 2 version that's probably a few weeks old.
I'd recommend them to upload to the Latest version

Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
I haven't used it much, but I used my MD380 (with MD380 Tools) with the GD77 hotspot a bit and it seemed okay, and plan on doing it a bit more in the future. What problems did you have with it?YT5HOK wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:59 pmIs he using repeater, or hotspot? If hotspot, what are MMDVM settings? Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
No, no... No problems in that configuration.
If you setup Chinese duplex hotspot for use with MD-380, then it won't work with GD-77, and vice versa.
And BTW, MD-390 will work either way.
Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
I have the same problem with my MD-380.
I was told to increase the DMR level from 50 to 55 on the Jumbospot and it then worked with the MD-380 but no other radios.
The problem is fundamentally the chipset used in the Jumbospot is actually designed for ISM bank telemetry and not DMR audio. So even though the Jumospots use a quite accurate TCXO they are not as accurate as the HT radio hardware.

Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
Well now I'm more confused; I use my MD380 and my GD77 on the same Pi-Star mmdvm hotspot every day. But it's not duplex, just noticed you mentioned that. I had pondered getting a duplex but hadn't really felt the strong need, why is duplex broken here?

Read more about it here:

Don't get me wrong, duplex hotspot is better then simplex, IMO. I had two simplex ones. Bought one duplex, sold one simplex. Buying another duplex, will sell second simplex. GD-77 will be the only simplex hotspot I will have.
But I have MD-390 too, so what ever I choose to set on duplex hotspot, I always have two handheld transceivers usable on it, but you'll have to choose which one you want to use.
Re: Tier2 vs Tier1 firmware
Huh, I guess I won't be getting a duplex board then But yeah, a little different issue than I was expecting.. Settings that are compatible with the MD380 aren't compatible with the GD77. I was thinking you were saying they interfered with each other or such, but either way thank you for the information!YT5HOK wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 9:09 amDon't get me wrong, duplex hotspot is better then simplex, IMO.
