BTW, I found your "Mods for MD-9600" and did resistor mod right away. Well, it already had (SMD) resistor, cause my transceiver is HW V3, but it was 2.2k, so I replaced it with 1k. It was much better, but I even added one 22k resistor in series with speaker, cause I intend to use MD-9600 mainly at home, where I like to keep quiet environment. And it's easily removable/changeable, if needed.
Edit: didn't find that option...

I eventually replaced the pot with an A Law type and that improved it a lot.
I cant remember the part number but I think it was manufactured by ALPS.
I have copied the factory software to this location.

You need to first read the radio, then tick the box marked "up/down Key Switch", then write back to the radio.

Thank you! I will definitely replace the pot now that I know how it looks like. That was the idea from the start and now hearing from you it's even better, I'll do it rather sooner then later. Then it will be perfect little transceiver, for the money it costs. Plus I got it on discount and I used coupon and even got free express shipping.
