Charger mods and Pi Zero W HotSpot modifcation
Charger mods and Pi Zero W HotSpot modifcation
I made my HS OpenGD77 by modifying the charging base to be able to insert the PiZero W directly inside it. To do this I had to replace the original charging circuit with a TP5100, add an LM2596 module to stabilize the voltage at 5V to power the Pi0, change a USB cable. Obviously or replace the original power supply with a 2A one.

Re: Cherger mods and Pi-zero HotSpot modifcation
Very nice! But watch for temperature, even Pi 0 runs very hot when in closed plastic case.

Re: Charger mods and Pi Zero W HotSpot modifcation
Here's another pictorial of a GD-77 based hotspot.
I made a somewhat shielded connector for the USB cable, so far the setup seems stable at 500mW using the rubber ducky antenna.
I'll leave it there for few days before I try higher power settings.
Wonder mine doesn't show the IP address on the GD-77 display....

Hi,
To see the IP address, you need to use the CAST display driver on the Pi-Star (MMDVMHost)
Cheers.

To see the IP address, you need to use the CAST display driver on the Pi-Star (MMDVMHost)
- Using the official Pi-Star
from expert mode, edit the mmdvmhost configuration file, and set Display to CAST, in [General] section - Using my fork
in the configuration page, in MMDVMHost configuration panel, select the display driver in the MMDVM Display Type drop down list
Cheers.

Thanks Daniel. I didn’t know about that setting.
For posterity, the setting in pi-star is at:
Configuration/Expert/MMDVMHost/General Display=CAST (note that “CAST” is in all caps)
