Odd, when I converted from stock GD77 firmware to OpenGD77 everythiing just worked. You sure you're using the OpenGD77 CPS?
You'll want to clean up your codeplug significantly anyway, as you probably had a lot of duplicate channels with different talk groups (which is typical) and that's no longer needed on OpenGD77.
Restart procedure
Re: Restart procedure
You need to use the OpenGD77 specific CPS to update and manage codeplugs once you've loaded the OpenGD77 firmware into the radio.
Note that we're not talking about the "GD77 Community Edition CPS", which is designed to work with stock firmware.
The OpenGD77 CPS is located here:

(Yes - there was a typo in the description... 2020 not 2002....)
The Firmware and loader are at:

Re: Restart procedure
The firmware loaders and driver that come with this project are very solid.
I test the firmware every time a new version is released, and it's never had a problem. This is a machine I use for loading up a number of different radios over USB.
Don't forget to look at some of the great "Extras" in the OpenGD77 CPS, like the radio backup functions, and the DMR RadioID loading facility (as automated as I've ever seen).
