Baofeng DM-5R and RD-5R

Post by VK3KYY » Sun Mar 08, 2020 6:57 am

I have a RD-5R and I know @m1dyp has a DM-5R, so I'm starting a thread about these radios.

I'm about to take mine apart and I'll let everyone know whats inside !

If you can't use your Baofeng for anything, you could try taking it apart and seeing whats inside.

You'd need a star head screwdriver, but thats the only non-standard bit of kit you'd need.

cheated a bit by forcing a gap, looks like it's confirmed as a hr_c3000 chip.

Ken

OK.

I think the C3000 is an older chip and does not support Tier 2 :-(

My PCB has

5R-DMR-V2.2
20180911

So its never version, but it looks like they made a lot of changes.

yes, mine is v1.4 , so very old, but it's ok for fm and broadcast fm radio.
by the way it took ages to re-align the screen, it's the top two clips that need bending back out.
so.....back on the display shelf for mine.(tha'ts two hours i won't get back )

The Baofeng RD-5R is a different radio. It DOES support Tier 2 so must have a later chip.
