Is there any chance for porting OpenGD77 to RT3S in the future ? I mean hardware wise, which radio would be the next possible candidate in terms of compatibility ? Thank you.
No idea about the RT3S

I think Angelo is in contact with Retrovis, but unless the firmware encryption is already cracked by the MD-380 guys, or Retrovis tell is the encryption... And Retrovis also supply test hardware and schematic, its never going to happen, as I don't have the time or money to port firmware to other radios, I have to work during the week for pay, and I have limited time outside of working.

The Retevis RT3s is identical to the TYT MD-UV380, can use the same firmware and CPS. So this question is a duplicate.
Do the MD-380 tools support either of those radios ?

I had a look on the various MD-380 toolz sites and the RT3S does not seem to be supported.

I don't know if this means that the encryption has not been cracked, or whether the firmware is so different from the MD-380 that the MD-380 patches don't work on the MD-380UV

The only thing that matters in terms of porting the OpenGD77 to any other radio, is

1. Does it use the same (or similar ) DMR chip (HR-C6000) as the GD-77 (which the DM-1801 and RD-5R do)
The MD-380 etc seem to use the C5000 which is probably almost identical to the C6000.

2. Has the encryption been cracked so that firmware can be uploaded using the bootloader in the radio.

3. Does it use the same RF chip. (AT-1846S or RDA-1846)

In order of priority, if either 1 or 2 are a fail, then its not possible.

If it doesn't have the same RF chip, then the port would be possible but take longer.

The MD380 Tools has not been ported to the MD-UV380 (which is equivalent in firmware to the MD-UV390).

However, there is a port done for the TYT-MD2017 which is somewhat similar to the MD-UV390 with the difference in hardware interface (it uses a trackball instead of up and down arrows). But I suspect that they use the same baseband (C6000) and RF chip (not sure which).

EDIT: The MD2017 port is fairly recent and is still on a very buggy/beta stage.

MD380 does use C5000. And even then, there have been minor variations of the MD380 through the years, with some variants using a different vocoder.

Angelo

Thanks.

Its mainly the encryption which would completely prevent the code being ported over.

Do you have a link to the MD-UV380 Toolz source code stuff ?

And bring the firmware to a mobile device like this? It doesn't have to be too different, beyond the rf power transistor

Same manufacturer, same time ... possibly same chip ... the pity is that they ask for a lot of money for these radios

Here some images inside...

The Anytone 868 uses a different baseband chip that is not compatible to the HR-C6000.

The TYT MD9600 does use the HR-C6000 but it has a different CPU and the RF stages are true superhet designs which do not use the 1846.

So unfortunately neither would be easy to do.

It seems to me that the closest radio to the GD-77 is the RD-5R. Would button mappings be sufficient, or are there electrical differences like you are finding with the DM-1801 ?

It has a complete different screen, so would need a new driver to be written, but it should be possible and I did buy a RD-5R last year to investigate this.

I like the Idea of the MD-2107 Port

Ty Weaver did some mods of this receiver but it seemed short lived.

Be a nice receiver to mod though

Rob..
